I need a pair of trolling rods that will used exculsively for in line boards. Ive checked out the Gary Roach 7 ft 10 in rods. I like the retractable butt on them.Good for storing them! Any other in line rods out there that I should check out? Also if you want to add you in put on a line counter trolling reel, feel free! Thanks

Check out the new GT80M from St. Croix. This rod was designed for pulling in-line planers. It's 8' and has a telescoping handle. I picked up four this year and love them, good combination of backbone, yet a soft enough tip section for Fireline. Regarding reels, personally I think there is really only one choice and that would by Daiwa Sealine Graphite (SG27 or SG47). I use the 27's for everyday trolling, I have these backed with 10# XT and use Fireline. I use the 47's for leadcore reels, they just have a larger capacity, otherwise the same as the 27's.

Best Regards,

Rods- Bass Pro Shops Walleye Angler series trolling rods. Three sizes 7', 8', or 8 1/2'- I like the long rods with planer boards unless you are fishing alone. The best $50 fishing rod you will ever buy. Reels- Diawa's all the way!

I have been using the Gary Roach rods for (3) years now and very pleased with them. FYI - Gander Mountain has these on sale for $49.99, normally $79.99. I bought (4) more because I believe they will be discontinued shortly since Mr. Walleye is pushing the Berkley Lightning rods.

I have used them primarily for in-line and planar board use. I have used them seldom for downrigger trolling but only with spoons or crawler harnesses at slower speeds. Overall, great rods, no complaints.

I have compared these with the Bass Pro Walleye Series of rods and also impressed with them. However, I really like the cork handles and the retractable butt on the Roach Rods. Finally, I think the Bass Pro Walleye rods have more fiberglass content depending on which model you get. Which may or may not be a good thing, mainly depends on the user.

As far as line counters, Diawa SG27LC's all the way. Have (6) setup on the Gary Roach rods, awesome combinations. Which reminds me, Bass Pro has some excellent priced combo's with the Diawa SG27LC's. Looks like you have a couple of options, good luck.

Just bought a SG27lc combo from bass pro, trying to phase out my current line counters. Man they are much nicer, wish I wouldn't have gotten the previous ones. I bought the combo that came with the power pro rod. It was only $10 more than the reel itself, and turned out to be halfway decent. Pulls boards nicely. Good Luck!

pabst; ditto St Croix with Daiwa's. Great set-up for the range of mono, fireline and leadcore. Good Luck, something I wish I had more of this past weekend at LBDN. Walleye Mike
