View Full Version : Lake near Alexandria, MN. Where would you go? (August)
Looking at the possibility of taking our week of fishing during the 1st week of August around the Alexendria area. Been going to the Park Rapids area, but thinking of getting a little closer to home. I have never fished in the area and was hoping someone could direct us to a good fishing lake. We prefer walleyes, but also like to fish for Northern, Perch, and other panfish.
I know it's a bad time of the year, but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

It is hard to beat Miltona. There are muskies in there as well.

I have heard of Miltona. What is the lake like? Structure? Depths? Good walleye population? Any of the resorts you would recommend?
Anyone else out there have something for me? Any advise is appreciated!!

Lake Reno and Lake Minnewaska are good bets also. Crankbaits trolled in the evenings along weedlines.

Miltona is a reasonably easy lake to fish with many gradual drops if you like to troll and a large mid-lake flat to work the edges of. Heven't fished there in a couple years, but the walleye population there has always been pretty good. I have heard that you need to fish somewhat differently (steep drops, deeper, etc) as their are LOTS of huge muskie in the lake.
Personally, I've had good luck with Olstad's resort. Dewey is a great guy and they're got very good accomodations. Haven't fished too many other lakes in the area, but I'd second Miltona.
Good luck in your choice.
