I noticed in the past two weeks many negative comments toward the Motorguide Lazer. I responded with many problems. This past week the circuit board gave up. I finally am going to junk this poorly designed expensive motor.

I troll mostly open water for walleyes and occasionally use it for bass fishing.

I use a 17.5 foot Sportfish Crestliner. Any reccomendations for a new Motor?

Are you sure that it is the circuit board?
I have had a laser for several years and have had 0 problems with the motor. I did have a couple of problems with the original foot pedal. They used a flexible circuit board in the pedal that would corrode and eventually fail. They always sent me a new pedal at no charge which fixed the problem.

The new style foot pedal that I have had now - doesn't use the flexible circuit board and has given me 0 problems for the last two years.

Take care

You are heading in the right direction, after three MG motors all of them being a pain in the back side, I swithched to Minn Kota. The MG's I had were the back troller[piece of junk] foot controlled bow mount, down for repairs three times in four years, and finally the lazer, after doing all the work to put this thing on my boat, it didn't work, brand new right from the factory garbage. Got my money back, good buy almost all brunswick products, course my merc runs good for awhile after a stop at the mechanic, but its a pretty good engine. The worst thing they ever built was the bottom finder, which they sold to some one else, but I'll never have one of those pains again either.

I brought up some of the questions about the lazer ES a couple of weeks ago. I have since had the lazer ES replaced with a cable steer Hyperdrive 54lbs 54" shaft motor. Motorguide sent me the new motor after I told them of all the problems I have had with the lazer motors. 2 cicuit board failures and constant steering problems. The old style foot controls were a pain to work also. I think Motorguide is aware of the defecencies of this style motor because they replaced mine without any hassles. Now if UPS could only locate my lazer motor I sent to Starkville Mississippi on May 22nd to trade in for the motor I now have. By the way my new trolling motor works great. Motorguide service was outstanding, I can't say the same about the lazer models of trolling motors. I think if you want electric steer motors you better go with Minnkota.
