View Full Version : WC Huron 2002 Get Together Plans....

This is a 2 part post...
Part one:
We would like to get a "feel" of how many people plan on attending this year. If you are planning on coming down for this, please post a response. I know we won't reach everyone who is attending by this post, but we can get a good idea of how many to expect. From all the people that Golden, Den, Rick and I have talked to, we get the sense that there will be close to 600 or maybe even more attending this year.
That brings us to part two:
This year we are looking at having a pig roast, So even Boyd, Den, Dan and the rest of the guys that make this outing a success can enjoy themselves.
REASONS BEING....
1. If it rains, no one will get to eat fish, because the cooks can't cook in the rain. (They have to cook outside).
2. There are too many people attending now to feasibly feed everyone at the same time.
3. It has become too much work for the cooks, and they don't get to enjoy any relaxation time during the cookout. They would like to throw a few brewski's back while chatting with everyone too.
4. We don't have enough cookers to keep up with the crowd.
Pig Roast positives...
1. Someone outside does the cooking and serving, so that everyone gets to eat at the same time. That means the raffle will start and end at a reasonable hour.
2. If it rains...so what! We still eat!
3. Everyone gets to enjoy it this year...even the cooks.
4. We don't have to worry about running out of food again.
5. We went with pigs, because they are the easiest way to feed such
a large group like this one.
Please let us know what you all want to do this year, Give us your thought's.
Thanks, and we'll see you in November!
Juls
p.s. By the way, the Perch and Walleye are biting great over in the Huron area as we speak! Wahooo! I can't wait!

Im still trying to get my plans together. I will make it somehow!
Just a suggestion, Juls. I know we talked a little about at last years fish fry, I think we should do name tags, even if its as simple as some blank peel and stick labels from Staples that we could write our name on when we buy our raffle tickets. That way, I would know who I am insulting!! :+
I'll be there, girlfriend. Wouldn't miss your wedding for anything...
But instead of kissing the bride, I intend to kiss the groom so be sure to keep him practicing, practicing, and practicing before the wedding.... this will be his one and only chance to impress me :-)
And, Juls, once again, I have to say, "There must be FLOWERS!"
Hehehehe... she knows what I'm talking about....
Juls
Janet & I have a room at the Rivers Edge .. if Son/Capt SheepHead makes it up with the boat that will make 3 of us.

Juls, Chris and I will be there and we'll probably have a couple of people with us.
I really didn't mind helping cook last year. It was pretty social out there. The really hard work was done by Den, Huck, and the other guys doing the breading and getting fillets ready for the deep fryers. BobOh and Captain Shaggy kept putting full beers in front of me and I forgot how to say no! I had fun doing it but will have fun inside also.
I'll see you and Rick in Red Wing!

Ok, since Ness let the cat out of the bag here...I just want to say that mine and Rick's wedding has nothing to do with the Get Together. It just happens to be on the same day...;-)
We are planning on getting hitched on the beach in the afternoon, and then we will be over at the hall working our butts off, helping to set up the dinner and raffle.
We in no way want to make this "our" event. This is the Walleye Central Get Together, and we hope everyone who attends has as good a time as everyone has in the past.
Ness, I already told you that I could probably find some zebra muscle bunches on the beach...they would have that nice drapping down effect, like Lilly Of The Valley's do...lol Who needs flowers?
Heck, I won't even be wearing a dress...I'll be in my Guidewear with the Cabelas logos all over it. It's November on Lake Erie don't forget...brrrr.
Like you, I'm making my Mom crazy too...;-)
Hehehe

Gilligan,
If you can get your hands on some labels, then by all means bring them along. That's a great idea. We say it every year that we should have had them, but every year we forget to get them. So, this year...let's use them!
Thanks buddy!

Smart choice in wedding apparel too Juls, get more use over time from the Cabela's Guidewear then a wedding dress.

Hi Juls,
We attended our first WC Outing at Huron last year, and vowed to never miss another one.
I like the idea of a pig roast! Aside from being the other white meat, it may provide some incentive for people to put a few more of those bigger fish back. That never hurts!

My wife and I are planning to attend. A pig roast sounds great! I haven't been able to work out all of the details on my boat yet. I didn't realize some of the aggravation of a larger boat. I've gotten too used to hook and run! Now there is storage, winterizing, and yadada. Maybe I'll get used to it. Anyway, we're looking forward to our first trip down after reading about it for years. My oldest son is driving and we should be able to get away.

Morning all,
If you've read Scott's post at the top of the message boards, you'll know that any responses posted since the 23rd are now missing. So, if you want to post again...please do. Otherwise, I know there were at least 20-25 people coming that are no longer listed, and you don't need to post again...I'll just keep that in mind..;-)
We have been on the phone for the past few days gathering donations for the raffle. You guys won't believe what we have come up with for some of the prizes! I'm going to keep it a secret, because some of them are too good to spoil the surprise! Let me just say, you won't be disappointed, and some lucky winners will be going home from this event very-very happy!

Blue Ribbon Catering will be doing the cooking this year. The menu is going to include:
Pork Shoulder (sliced in large portions) one slice per person
ALL YOU CAN EAT:
Potatoes Au Gratin
Beans
Slaw
Blue Ribbon will supply all the condiments, plates, napkins, forks/knives etc. and take care of the set up and take down.
Bring your own beverage please.
They will be ready to start serving dinner at 5:30 and will serve until 8pm. There will be two buffet tables set up, so everyone can move through the lines quickly.
This year we have both sides of the building available to us, so we plan on serving food on the one side, and then when you're done eating, you can move over into the other side for the raffle drawing.
The drawing will start at 8:30, so everyone has plenty of time to finish eating before the drawing starts.
For those that were not there last year, we will have directions to the building posted soon. (I keep calling it "the building", because for the life of me, I can't remember the name of it this morning..lol)
Well, gotta hit the road this morning, we're off to Red Wing. Have a good day everyone!
