View Full Version : Reservoir And Rising Water ????
OK you guys help me out on this one. I'm fishing a very large reservoir out west with water rising fairly quickly . . . about a foot and a half per day. It's currently about 20 feet below full pool level. The water temp ranges from 55 to 65 degrees depending on where you are at in the reservoir. The walleye are very hard to find right now. Any ideas on where to find them and some suggessted methods??

Look in flooded weeds. When Sakakawea rose rapidly a few years ago, tournaments were won by those fishing in flooded sweet clover.

Reservoir rules. Rising water fish high. Falling water fish low. Run and gun- here today gone tomorrow. And the most important rule- see below. Classic scenario- your lake is a plateau style impoundment with bays and shoreline vegetation is being flooded- at those water temps fish should be shallow. Pitch jigs, cranks, split shot rigs, or slip bobbers. Typically fish will scattered- remember to run and gun. If the rising water is really muddy it can be tough. Try cranks with rattles. Now rule #1 for reservoirs. Unless the fish are spawning or in a big sulk they are in line at BK and its WHOPPER WEDNESDAY. Find their food and you'll get fed! This rule supersedes all others. Walleyes are where the food is.
