I've notice that many of you write of using fireline, but never spiderwire, fusion, and seldom other "super" lines. Is fireline what most of you use? Is there a difference?

I think the other products are target marketed toward bass fisherman. Walleye fishing folks have migrated to Fireline. I have never used the others - only Fireline. I am trying Cabelas RipCord this year for the first time.

I havn't yet used fireline, but fusion has worked for me quite well. I've caught walleye, bass, pike, and muskie using it and in very clear water as well.

I used 24-12 fusion last year on my dipsy rods with-out any problems. It's the cheapest price super-line out there, ( #####'s has it on sale this week for 2.99 a spool!) I bought several more spools to keep myself. Dan Marker

I've used both, and I can understand why fusion is cheaper. It gives you the price of mono with the no-stretch characteristics of a super line. The only beef I have with it is that it tends to fray (sp?) very easily. Not very abrasion resistant.

Hard to find in my area, but I spooled up with 4lb/20lb WHIPLASH made By Berkley....so far I have heard only good comments. The price of a 300yard spool is approx 15 bucks a better value than fireline. I have had excellent luck and I believe many people will switch once they try it. Visit Berkleys website for more info. The Line comes in Green and White...Good Luck

I have ony used fireline and realy like it and am not sure about fusion but I have noticed a small bit of wear on my guides from fireline. Am I the only one having this problem? Is there anything that can be done about it?

Good fishin'.

I use both Fusion and Fireline. It seems that Fireline is a smaller diameter and gets to the bottom easier than Fusion. Both lines have their place. Fusion will fray easier than Fireline and probably not last as long on the reel as Fireline but I break off my line and have to repool enough so that cost is more of an issue than season long durability. Mono's stretch has made it obsolete to me.

I like Fireline, but recently spooled up a couple trolling reels with PowerPro 20/2, and I love it. Plus, it's cheaper than Fireline. Check it out at http://www.powerpro.com. It's worth a try on a reel or two.

Thought about using it after reading good stuff about it but I don't know whether to use 10/2 or 20/6 for trolling/cranking. What do you think since you have used this stuff?

I wondered the same and opted for the 20/6 (that's what I meant to say in the post above). It's in my SG27LC's, which seemed a better match. That's plenty of strength to pull snags free or drag heavy bottom bouncers deep, but still small diameter. I've even caught perch with it! Sounds crazy catching perch on 20lb line, but it works. I'd probably use the smaller stuff for a spinning rig. Right now I've got Fireline 6/2 in my spinning rig and love it, but might try PowerPro 10/2 in it next.

I used 10/6 fusion all last season and it worked ok. Its easy to tie knots, stronger then the 10lb rating it says, and is very sensitive. Bad part: once its nicked, strength goes down quick, on occasion I had a birds nest on my spinning reel and lastly the sound it makes going through the guides (sounds like a pick going up a guitar string) drives you nuts.

But i can say that i did land a 7lb and 5lb rainbow on it :)

I am thinking of trying powerpro here in the future and putting the fusion on a backup rod

I have been using 6/2 Fireline all winter on my ice jigging rod. I have had alot of success with that rig, because I can feel even the slightest tap. I will never go back to mono for ice fishing. I do use a 3 ft section of Florocarbon for a leader, and I thinks that gets more trout to bite.
