I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN BEAT TO DEATH BUT, HAS THERE BEEN ANY IMPROVMENTS IN THE ACCURACY OF THE NAVIONIC'S FISHING HOT SPOTS MAPS ON THE MULTI-MEDIA CARDS USED ON THE LCX-15MT?

I have a new GlobalNav 2400, and can't figure out why I'd want to spend that many greenstamps to put hotspots into it. What am I missing? Generally I use maps just for a general reference when I first fish a new lake. After one or two trips they become clutter.

The Hotspots maps aren't nearly detailed enough to be useful for determining depth. For an example, I have the Hotspot map (both paper and CD) for Lake Vermilion and it shows none of the midlake structures except those shallow enough to be marked with bouys.

Same junk product, new month. Just my opinion.

Ah! I don't use the Hotspots version. On Rainy I use the Navionics XL charts which are exact copies of the CHS charts. Every reef that is published is covered.
Sorry

If I remember correctly, Mike from Hot Spots indicated that they were reformatting all of the maps for greater accuracy. He was a scheduled presenter on the Chat site so you may want to go there and check the archives. He also monitors this site so I'm sure that he'll correct me if I'm wrong or if I have used the wrong lingo.

I don't think it's related to accuracy, but to incompleteness. Much structure is not even shown. Referring again to the Lake Vermilion map -- I know of nearly a dozen sunken islands, ridges, and sandbars which HotMap doesn't even hint at.
I think the shorelines are accurate, the features shown are where they say they are, but much of the lakebottom features are simply missing.

WELLFOR INSTANCE, ON WINNIBIGOSHISH THE NAV. MAP SHOWS A BIG BAR DROPPING DOWN FROM THE NORTH SHORE JUST WEST OF THE GAP AND MY FLASHER SAYS THERE ISNT A THING THERE! AND INSIDE THE GAP I SHOWS ME ON LAND WHEN IM 150' FROM SHORE? IM SORRY,BUT STUFF LIKE THAT LEAVES ME DISAPPOINTED I SPENT THE KIND OF MONEY I DID. SAME ON LEECH LAKE,VERY VAGUE. NOW I KNOW I SHOULDNT DEPEND ON THESE MAPS SOLEY(SP) BUT..... I WAS HOPING THEY WOULD REVEAL SOME STUFF I DIDNT KNOW WAS THERE. AND IF THERE IS SOOOO MUCH ROOM ON THOSE MMC'S WHY DONT THEY PUT SOME INFO IN TYPE THAT YOU COULD OPEN UP AND READ ABOUT THE LAKE? KINDA LIKE THEIR PAPER MAPS HAVE ABOUT THE (HOT SPOTS) LIKE LOCAL FISHERMEN COMMENTS ABOUT CERTAIN BARS AND FLATS. I FEEL LIKE WE (THEY) ARENT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE TECHNOLOGY AT HAND. NOW I KNOW MIKE ISNT GONNA LIKE THAT COMMENT AND I REALIZE THE MANUFACTURERS ARE ONLY GONNA RELEASE A LITTLE BIT AT A TIME SO I GUESS WE GOTTA LIKE IT OR LUMP IT HUH? AND IF THEY(NAVIONICS) DOES IMPROVE WHAT THEY HAVE,DO WE GET FREE UPGRADES OR ARE THEY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO MAKE IT BETTER AND FORCE US TO DUMP WHAT WE HAVE IN EXCHANGE FOR WHAT IS NEW(SUPPOSEDLY BETTER)?

A quote from Mike Michalak of Fishing Hot Spots: “We're also georeferencing nearly every map we've got (big $$$) to ensure the lake data is right on. Many of you are aware of some of the difficulties with the Navionics HotMaps”.
This was taken from the chat site archives.
