what is the best size dipsey to run when fishing scorpion spoons for walleye?do you run the ring on it as well?this would be for western basin max depths probobally 25-30'.if running multiple dipseys do you set all the same size at different wide settings or run different size dipseys?
thanks for any and all answers.also has anyone ran snap weights w/spoons off boards instaed of dipseys?

Do you guys who troll the Dipsy and spoons on Erie ever run Little Cleos? Or do you have much better luck on the Stinger Scorpions?

Mich. Stinger Scorpion size ( the little ones) are most popular, per Ray Halter owner of The Rod Maker Shop. Cleveland's premier trolling shop

We regularly run 4 Dipsys on each side and we use the large dipsy with the ring out of Lorain, some times as shalloow as 37'. Part of what makes Dipsys work is the fact that you get alot of verticle swim with them. By that I mean they are moving up and down in the water column as you make steering corrections and turns. With the zebra muscles this would create a big problem for you west enders. If I were going to set up to run spoons I'd choose 20 Jets as the diving mechanism. They flat at rest, and you can even stop the boat to deal with a big fish without having everything bottom out. They go down 20' with 100' of 10# mono out and 30' with 150' of mono out. Perfect for the western basin. They are a better choice than the size 0 Dipsy. Good luck

We use all the same size, and set them at 1, 2, 3, & 4. I know there is no 4 but set the arrow where 4 should be, they'll run. To get roughly the same depth, add 10' from 1 to 2, add 12' between 2 and 3, add 15' between 3 and 4. These lengths increase substantially with longer amounts of line out. I hate it when people don't answer the question asked!!! SORRY

I fish the western basin mostly and run 4 big dipseys (2 ea.side) and 2small dipseys off the corners if the fish seem to be running higher. Also run 20 sz. jets off boards for higher fish. Or just flat line Wiggle warts or Rip Sticks

ETT, do you mean you get bit with the big dispy "1" size set only 37 ft. out? Or,or talking about the small size "O" set 37 ft. out, running off boards. Thanks for this response and your others.

My bad!! I meant we run the big dipsys with the ring in 37' of water. (Let me add that we won the Team walleye Lorain tournament on dipsys Set at #3 with 45' of line out off of Avon in water fron 25 - 40' deep). But that was a non-standard presentation and one I probably will not duplicate the rest of the year. Good luck
