Lookint at the S-10 4 x 4 ext. cab w/4.3 6 cyl. and the Dakota with the small v8 (4.7). Just looking for some response from owners of these pickups on good and bad things about them. I will be pulling a 16 ft. deep-V approx 2200 lbs. so towwing capacity should not be a big issue, price is about the same and I have test drove both, also looking at mpg seeing how its gotten real pricey as of late here in Michigan. Thanks in advance!

I have a 2000zr2 blazer. I like the way it looks, but am a little unhappy about the lack of power. I live in northeast ohio and when driving up hills without towing a trailer I usually have to kick it down to maintain speed. When I tow my 4700lb boat it really drags it down. On the turnpike coming back from the islands there is a few spots that I drop down to under 50mph. Fuel mileage around town is 15-16, when towing the boat it drops to 10-11. When my lease is up I am going to buy a full size with a V8. If I were you I would buy the V8 Dakota

I used to tow my 1600 Fishawk with a 4.0 L V6 Ranger. It did ok until the transmission failed and sprayed transmission fluid all over the boat.

I replaced that Ranger with a 5.2 liter Dakota.
I used to be reminded of the boat while going up hills, now I forget that I'm towing anything at all. I love the way my Dakota performs.

I use a 97 dakota v8 (318) for towing my 17 foot Alumacraft Trophy. I have no complaints so far and I'm at 47,000 miles. I get 16-19 mpg on the highway and 14-15mpg towing at 65 mph. It has plenty of power and drives like a car. Very comfortable. I tried other vehicles, but some trucks drive like hay wagons. As far as looks I think the dakota is way above the others, but thats strickly personal. I know the dakota has more interior room than the s-10 and you can get dakotas with v8, I believe the s-10 only has a six banger. Good luck on your choice.

The regular S10 4WD 190HP is a nice truck, but that tricked-up ZR2 has drivetrain reliability issues.
