Hello guys,

Do you use fish attractants with soft plastics or crank baits ?
Better results ?

Thanks,

Dan

I use them on cranks. Some species seem to pick up on scents better than others though.

I have never tried it, but I'll try anything. I have heard of people using live bait on cranks?? Sounds silly, but they say it works.

Ihave used both the smelly jelly crawfish-anise and BaitBond from James Valley scents on my plastics while jiggin' the Detroit with pretty good results.

I use just plain WD40. This tip came from a person closely connected to the walleye tackle business. Does anybody else use WD40?

My son got antsy one day while we were trolling the Menomonee River and Green Bay for Salmon. The fish were jumping and the fishing should have been good, but we just weren't connecting with the fish.

We had originally planned to fish spawn sacks, but the current was too fast and we decided to troll j-plugs instead.

Well, my son decided to hood a sack right onto the last trebel hook of one of the plugs. I rolled my eyes and he got mad as he was serious. So, I said go ahead and rolled my eyes again figuring that the line was now a waste of time. Two large salmon later, and I decided to hang a sack on the other line (which had caught nothing). Two salmon on that pole and my son had 20lb test mono snapped 3 inches below the bait with the Salmon jumping out of the water with the plug still in his mouth.

Yes, live bait works on cranks. How much might be the question. perhaps a morsel for scent. Like a couple crawler (or crayfish) pieces on a single hook of the trebles.

I have been told since that this is one of the secrets that the top pros use and don't speak of it.

WD40 has been a mainstay on Erie for many for 25 years or so.

Prbably not good for the water to be adding petrochemicals.

I've used Smelly Jelly Walleye Feast and it didn't work at all. I will give the crawfish anise a try though.
