I just got the smartest, strongest, best looking chocolate lab you will ever see! Her name is Simken Monoxide Monroy Ewing and we will be terrorizing lakes and fields next year so watch out!!!

Be careful Eric. Animals tend to stick together. Those squirrels will soon have him recruited chewing up the house!

do your self a favor...buy the pooch lots and lots of chew toys.
this way when looking for your shoes and other things you won't regret getting the dog.they are the best of breeds but they do love to chew things up

No doubt. This 8 week old puppy was chewing the brick on the outside of the house this morning. Better keep her away from my St. Croix rods.

You need to teach him how to scuba dive and find fish for you! LOL. Maybe we can teach him to fetch us beers while ice fishing this winter?

What a name, do you not want this dog to like you?
Bill W. (War-N-Peace-ch 68)
Okay... so what do you call this pooch?
My first thought was "Oh No; He's Adopted A Squirrel!". Glad to see you haven't completely lost your mind. A buddy of mine had a great Lab once. He called it "Turkey". If it had a registered name I never knew it. "Turkey" even liked to chase squirrels.

We just picked up our third lab...a chocolate male named Champ...got him right after PWT Championship..(got to have one champ in the family) He has really energized all of us...is absolutely fearless, was swimming across the pond at 12 weeks and retrieved a ringneck to hand at 14 weeks...real cool to have a pup back in the house...now if I can just find that TV remote...He is fitting in surprisingly well with my 14 y/o black and 12 y/o yellow...have fun with your pup E...check him out...http://www.greatlakessportsman.com/2002PheasantOpener.html.

Congrats Eric.
We have two Rottweilers and they are definitely part of the family. All dogs, no matter what breed, are only as good as their owner and training. Remember the golden rule when training, never hit the dog, you can't apologize and they don't get over it. They will get over a lot of yelling and screaming, but never laying a hand to them.
We take our dogs all over and have never once worried about them not coming when we call them, even chasing rabbits. They will alwyas listen if they respect you, that doesn't involve beating them into submission.
You don't strike me as a guy to hit your dog, but I always use an opportunity to let people know that hitting a pet, is hitting a pet, not training.

Great news Eric,
Let's see now...the front of your Starcraft used to be called the bow, and now it's the poop-deck. Come on, that's funny as I know how much you like to stay on the water.

Good thing I like to troll. That way I don't need to use the poopy-deck! It's actually kind of weird. I think I like the dog more than my boat carpet.
I will teach this dog to hang over the back of the boat like I do. Ha Ha

I can't imagine that one would hit a dog that gives the kind of look she does when I scream NO! Looks like I hurt her feelings just doing that. I believe in Positive Reinforcement as a motivator anyways. Got to train the dog what I like her to do, not make her guess at what I don't like.
Right now she is learning that there are food rewards and petting if she attacks the stuffed squirrel! LOL

You will be very happy with the results.
If someone comes to the house and the dogs don't like them, they are out!
My wife almost killed me one day when I yelled at one of ours for chewing on my leather chair. She wet the floor and my wife said I was too hard on her, I felt bad, but the dog still jumps all over (6 years old) when I get home. Couldn't have left to bad a mark.
I know the look you are talking about, and mine know the look I give them, I haven't had to raise my voice since they were 18 mos, just throw the "look" and they know...
How was your Glendo trip, email me off the board if you want?

Actually ended up going to big mac and didn't catch much at all. Just some catfish and white bass.

We just got a yellow lab pup this weekend too. He seems to prefer chewing on my old socks for now, but I'm sure he'll graduate to my wooden chair and my computer desk before long.

big mistake with the old socks thing Eyez, Did that with my lab (Bailey) soon after any sock in sight was an old sock, even if you are wearing them.
If you want to give them a good workout get a laser pointer and let em chase the dot around, what a hoot, 2 years later my dog still searches the house for it.
