This has nothing to do with fishing and is posted only to vent some steam. (Administrator feel free to dust it)
I had a letter with credit card numbers in it for tickets for a group tour on an airline and rather than send them over the web, I sent them from the postoffice in SD to the airline office in California.
I sent them from SD, PRIORITY MAIL, with a delivery confirmation option on Sat Oct 26th. They said at the window of the PO that Monday or possibly Tuesday for delivery.WRONG!!
The letter turned up at the PO in Calif on Oct 31 and was delivered late on Nov 1, the 7th day it was in the system.
People bicycle faster than that.
From now on it's UPS or FED EX for me.
Just a warning to the rest of you.

That window clerk gave you bum info. Priority mail is not guaranteed
for two day delivery. It is more like 3-5 days. I oughta know,I deliver the stuff every day. Next time use express mail.Next day delivery is suppopsed to be guaranteed, with Expressmail. Not saying that is written in stone either. Hey,I just deliver the stuff,OK? Otherwise, the alternatives are up to you.

Several years ago my brother sent a "guarnteed" overnight package to St. Louis from Springfield, Il.-a distance of approximately 100 miles. Cliff Klavin of the Postal Service delivered it six days later. Reply from the Postal authorities: "Sorry, but guarnteed overnight does not mean guarnteed overnight." They would not even give him a refund for the extra cost of the "overnight" delivery.

Express mail (overnight or second day delivery) is guaranteed. If it does not get there when you request it to, there is a refund on the entire purchase price of the express mail piece. How and when you get your refund, I'm not positive. However I'm sure it has something to do with the receipt on the package when the mail piece is delivered. A delivery person (Cliff) signs and dates and writes down the time the piece was delivered. NOW if that piece is late according to the label someone needs to take that package down to the postoffice to get a refund; or do they send the package back to you with the receipt on it so you can get the refund??
All I know is that I work for this outfit and some of the employees send items by express mail at Christmas time because they know we are so darn busy and will not be able to meet the deadline delivery date, they will end up mailing it for free by getting their money back because of the guarantee. I'll probably get fired for letting the world in on a little secret now!! oh! well

1. This event did not take place over Christmas. It was during the
summer.
2. The Springfield PO offered no refund. My brother was told
that "guarnteed overnight" just means that they will try to do it.
I guess six days is a good effort!

Perhaps it was late because the majority of "posties" were off renewing their N.R.A. memberships when your package needed delivering.

I had license plates for a truck mailed to me certified mail through the post office. After a couple weeks, I called the dealer to see why I hadnt received them. They did some research and after a couple of days of trading voice mails, I got the certified mail number. I tried calling the post office, and they said that they didnt have anything for me. I was then able to look up the number on the internet and find the status of my package. It was at the post office for 2 weeks and then were returned to the dealer. At least UPS or Fed Ex leaves a note! You would think that someone would have tried to let me know somehow that they were in possession of it or have some idea of where it was at the post office. Needless to say, I drove to the dealer and picked up the plates myself.
Time wasted...about 4 hours over 4 days. Thanks USPS.

I have to vent some steam to, not at U.S.P.S. at U.P.S. . I frequently order things online becuase im to lazy to go to the store to get it, whenever UPS delivers it they come at 10:00 am, leave a note on the door, next day same thing, 3 rd day I decide to go to work late, and wait for the package, the @#$#@#$# driver rings the bell and before I could get to the front door I hear him drive away, he never even waited 1 minute! they inform me that I have to drive to the "nice" side of town (youngstown ohio), where drugs and gunshots are rampant, if a company so big as ups cant make a delivery in the afternoon hours say 3 pm or so then they are worthless, the last 2 items I ordered I refused to drive to crap town to pick them up, they sent them back to the vendor, and I received a refund, I hope that costs ups profit, some people work in the daytime, why should people have to drive into a city to the slums and pick up a $10.00 package? the reason I ordered it online is so I dont have to go near the city. now when I order something online, I tell them to use USPS and not UPS or I do not want the package.I will never pay for their "service"(< haha) again, then I realized the superior quality of fed x and USPS AND thought ...ups who needs em?
Yikes!

Wow Joe, that's rough. I feel for you and know exactly where you're coming from. It also sounds like Youngstown needs some stronger gun control laws if the gunshots run rampant on the one side of your town. Oh well, thank God I live in Canada where we don't have to put up with that kind of stuff. I truly feel safe all the time...although, yes, there are gun related crimes here too, but nowhere near what you guys have. In Canada you have a better chance of winning the lottery than you do of being murdered by a gun.
As for our postal service..... it is just as bad, if not worse than yours.

More likely they were standing in line trying to get a package mailed during their lunch hour. But you Canadian socialists know all about standing in line waiting for a government service, right, Jervis??
A Canadian buddy of mine had a knee problem ... needed surgery. After 2 years of waiting to get the operation performed he decided to "private pay" so he could get the job done. He did.
You live in a glass house, Jervis. You need to be very careful about throwing stones.

Hey Observer, I don't recall seeing any signs that stated, "Check your sense of humor at the door"....did you??
I suggest you lighten up abit friend....and I'd do something about that chip on your shoulder.
Maybe your shorts are in a knot because what I said rings truer than intended. You must be a N.R.A. card carrying mailman for getting so upset with a harmless little joke. Maybe you should give your buddy Pat Buchanan a call and the two of you can get together for a couple of beers as you both bash Canada for all its worth. Have fun.
Why don't you send it to where you work?

Well I'd skip Fed Ex if I were you. I sent my x-15 to Lowrance a week and a half ago . They repaired it I guess and sent it Fed Ex Express.
It got to Great Falls, Mt. on Saturday the 2nd of November and its not due for delivery till Wednesday the 6th its sitting up there since saturday. I went up to try and get it today monday and they told me that they couldn't open the container its in till wednesday,
what a bunch of crap. I'll stick with UPS. I didn't fire off a letter to lowrance yet, I want to see what they fixed?
Seems like nobody gives good service anymore.

It was not a "harmless little joke". It was in poor taste and offensive. It is NOT harmless to joke about situations where people are getting killed. If you think it is, then you are the one who needs to make some adjustments.
Further, what my buddy Jamie is going through with his knee is not a joke either. The guy was in pain, until he decided to pay for his own surgery.

Touchy, touchy....Well then Observer, I'd say it's time to get some reforms into action so that innocent people won't be getting killed. What do you think of that idea my friend???? Scrap the N.R.A. and bring in some heavy duty gun laws.....something like 15 years in jail if you are found in the possession of an unregistered firearm. If you kill someone using a firearm....life in jail. Sound good??

ristorapper, are you really a USPS employee, or are you just mouthing off on this thread? I am not a delivery person,I am a letter carrier, and no, my name is not Cliff.Express mail is 'guaranteed' by 12:00 pm the next delivery day. The first attempt is done by the department called Special Delivery, especially in major cities.2nd and 3rd attempts are done by guys like me, the letter carrier. If the recipient, or addressee, isn't home on the 1st attempt, the postage is not refunded. My previous post was regarding the fact that I have seen Express mail not make it by the deadline on first attempt becuase it got hung up in the system somewhere, not because I didn't do my job in geting it to somebodys mailbox. It goes without saying, but the system isn't perfect. If a customer feels like, or has been gipped on delivery of an item, call your local postoffice, and if you don't get satisfaction there, go up the food chain until you get the satisfaction you deserve. You will get someones ear about the matter, eventually.
Jervis, you utter lack of intelligence doesn't even deserve any kind of response, but whether or not I am a member of the NRA is none of your ##### business.Go clutter up some other message board, loser.

I am an active member of the NALC and have been since 1988. I do not mouth off to the threads here on WC. If you have seen any of my many posts you would know that.
I would like to correct some of your missinformation requarding Express Mail from the USPS. Express mail is not necessarily guaranteed the next day by noon. If you have ever delivered an express piece there are several choices made by the customer; one next day and one second day. Another box the customer can choose delivery by noon or by 3PM. So there are four options: next day by noon or next day by 3pm and 2nd day by noon or 2nd day by 3pm. If this delivery promise is not met the customer is allowed a refund.
In our office first and second attempts to deliver the express piece are done by letter carriers. Our office has a local policy to attempt to deliver the piece by noon regardless which box is checked(service). You must be in a larger city if you still have special delivery personnel.
My statements above were simply to alert the originator of this thread that there is one method to send mail with a guarantee. Priority mail is not one of them.

I've got to say something here. I drive for a major overnight co. and I can assure you that if there is any way a driver can leave a pkg at your door he/she will theres no way in h#$l they want to come back the next day. Please when you order something make sure you tell the co your ordering from does not send your shipment " signature required " (I hate these). The post earlier about shipping it to your work is a good one and used alot I understand some times this is not possible but an alternate address where someone is home all day, or leave a signed note on your door allowing the delivery co to leave your pkg at the door, remember to SIGN IT you have no idea how many times I've gone to a house and they have left a note but did not sign it. While I'm rambling I would like to bring up addreses. Those decorative mail boxes are very pretty and sometimes even slick but PLEASE put your number somewhere it can be seen easily by a delivery person I can not believe how many people don't have the number on there house or there mailbox. And for those who let the college kids paint there numbers on the curb and think that is enough remember when it SNOWS these are useless it only costs a few bucks to buy numbers and you have no idea how much a delivery driver apprieciates it.
Good advice, I'll use it when I FedX or UPS in the future.

It isn't that difficult to leave a note on your door giving instructions for the driver. You could even have it sent to your work place, it will also save you some shipping costs.
What ticks me off is when you have left a note for 2 days & their is still no instructions left for the driver. Making 150+ stops a day doesn't give you much time to stand around.
I do go out of my way to help someone get their package, whether it's leaving my cell # or just having them leave me a note for the next day.
Take care,
Brad

Good advice EDD. If I had a dollar for every package that was addressed to a PO box, no other address, I could retire now! Or a apt. building with no apt. #. Or you call the person and they don't even know their house #! I could go on & on..... makes you wonder just how complicated life can get!!
Take care,
Brad
