Yep, I have a 400 and the same thing happened a few times last year. I ended up returning the first reel only to find the replacement was no better. Over the winter I took it apart (litterally stripped it) and cleaned/lubed it real good. So far this season, no problems. I am more careful with the dust - decided to try reel covers to see if it would help. Jury is still out....
I am having that problem with mine right now. I think I'll be sending it back to the factory to see what they can do. I tried oiling it and it didn't work. They are usually pretty good about making things right.

I am having trouble with my shimano spinning reels. I own two Sedona series reels, and I'm very disaopinted with them. On a couple of different ocasions this year I broke off on the hook set. While I was cleaning my tackle I found the problem. When the bail closes, instead of the line dropping into the bearing on the bail like it is supposed to do, it gets hung up on a piece of plastic that surrounds the bearing itself. Evidently after this has happened many times, the line cuts a groove in this piece of plastic. The end result is that your line ends up in this groove every time you close the bail, causing the line to wear. The two models that I own are the Sedona 500, and the Sedona 2000, While I understand that these are not the best reels on the market, they are not the cheepest either. If you own a Sedona series reel I would suggest that you check for this problem. This is a flaw in the design of these reels, so exchanging or repairing them will not correct the problem. I already returned one for a refund but I have had the other for over one year, so there is nothing the store will do about it. Still waiting to here from Shimano to see if they will make it right. If not I will never purchase another Shimano product.

Shimano replaced all the silver colored Corsairs with the new gold colored Corsair "A" models. You need to send them back to Shimano in California. Phone is 949-951-5003. I sent them a 300 and a 400, and had new reels in about a week, no questions asked. Don't bother checking with your local dealer, they weren't let in on the secret.

My last three reels from them have been defective. A Spirex that I purchased last year will not come out of anti-reverse. I used to be a Shimano only guy, now I have my doughts.

I had the same problem with one of my Stradic 2000's last year. Called Shimano and ordered a new bail assembly. The new ones don't have the plastic cover near the line guide roller. Cost me $5.00 to fix. The rep I talked to said that they had problems with the other style. Make a call to Shimano. They are very helpful. LOL Fred

The Corsair is junk, as are most of Shimano's lower-end reels. But Shimano's higher-end reels are nice. Upgrade to a Calcutta and you'll be amazed at the difference.
This is what happens when you deal with a Jap company. Ambassadeurs do not do that...

Just called shimano about my defective Corsair. They told me to send it in and they'll send me a new one gold one. We'll see what happens, but it is customer service like this that will persuade me to buy shimano again. Anyone who has a silver Corsair get it sent in while the promo is on.

ED M Thanks for the phone number for Shimano. Talked to them earlier today and they said they would send me a redesigned bail for my Sedona 2000. Can't wait to see how it works out.
Thanks again
