In my never ending quest for my favorite fish and the need to cover my boat for the Winter, I decided to head up to the lake Saturday. I hit the Pier for Walleys 5 hours, skunked! Covered the boat today (Sunday) and headed home just in time to hear about Tornados to my left and tornados to my right. There I was stuck in the middle in my 2001 Silverado with millions of Quarter sized Hail Stones. The truck looks more like a golf ball now. Happy the windshield held!

Hope no one was still on the water and that all in the areas these storms hit are safe.

Hey Tracy, Thats a bummer about your bad trip. Herd there were a few fish taken last nite on the pier.Had a friend that was up on the pier today as the bad weather was moving in.The guard there told everyone to take cover fast.As he was driving home he went through PC. and saw a tornado that was doing quit a bit of damage.Said he saw a house on fire and a couple of roofs blowing off of houses.Something big hit the top of his van and left a 3ft diameter dent on it.Hope you get your truck taken care of.I will be in touch this week to see about fishing Huron this Sunday if the weatherman lets us .

The tornadoes also hit the Port Clinton area from Magruder Hospital down Rt #163. Many homes were apparently destroyed, and some blown into the lake according to Toledo news reports. Four deaths confirmed, but those were in rural areas, and not Port Clinton itself. A nasty and sad night for many here in northwest Ohio. There were four confirmed touchdowns of tornadoes.

Also the Condo's beside the BurgerKing down by the beach in Pt.Clinton are now artificial reefs. There were literally blown into the lake. I'm heading up that way now. (I work there) not to sight see. The eye witness said it was a huge twister. I saw video of the one in Van Wert and it was huge too,(1/2 mile wide) 18 twisters in all in Ohio. I was Deer hunting and was getting ready to draw on a nice 8pt. when a lightning bolt flashed and a loud crack of thunder scared the crap out of both of us. We both left !! I had no ideal what was going on until I got to the truck and turned the radio on. Oh and then the wife called, scared to death !

Airwave I was deer hunting (finally) for the first time this year. I left the treestand when I could hear thunder in the distance. We had some damage in Wood county from suspected funnels but nothing confirmed until NWS people check it out. My house was shaking for a few seconds and the pair of 25' norway spruce in my back yard are leaning opposite directions away from each other. Other than the power being out until 6:00 this morning though everything was intact. I feel very fortunate we were spared, sad for those that lost loved ones were not missed.

I'm headed out to see if I can help out with damage clean up or provide storage for those who lost structures.

Fostoria and a small town in Wood Co. -- Jerry City -- also got hammered. We got lucky in Hancock County mostly, seems like storm went north and south of us?? Tough day for Ohio. Worse part is we lost some people.....

I just got home from Pt Clinton. It is unbelievable. The area around the park by the beach and south to Rt 2 is a shamble. It's alot worse than the one that hit the Davis Besse/Green Cove area a few years back. I heard someone say the twister in Van Wert measured a Class-4 Don't know about Pt. Clintons

Brian I got a report of damage on Catawba. Have you heard this? It looks like my place outside Port Clinton did not get hit. I am starting to get punchy, this is the third touch down in the last few years around our place. What about the condo's next to Burger King, I heard they were blown into the lake? No one home? Hopefully.
Not much coming out about the P.C. area on the news or on line. An information would be greatly appreciated.

My thoughts and prayers to all who lost considerably more than I did on Sunday. I cannot begin to imagine the emotion envolved in seeing your home devastated or losing a friend or family member to this storm.

My truck is an easy fix and I am grateful that the 400 and some odd dents are my only scars from these storms.

My Brother and I were down at the Monroe County Mi Rod and Gun Club sighting in our rifles when the storm hit, man was that ugly, I didn't know how bad Ohio got hit until I got back home later that evening, I enjoy a good thunder storm but that was a bit much.

Yep 2 of the condo's are completely gone. In the lake ! I heard there was some damage to Catawba but haven't been down that way. I just know that the area from the condo's to Rt 2 has to be seen to believe. The State of Emergency was lifted today and traffic is now allowed.

The tornado skipped across the water after hitting the city and hit the tip of Catawba. It started near the CIC Club, over by Catawba Park, took out powerlines (closing the road yesterday on the west side of the Island by the club, but it should be open today(?)), trees and hit a couple of houses. One house was completely destroyed. The family left the house at 5:30 and the house was hit 15 minutes later. Whew, that was close.
Another house was damaged pretty good too.
Doug and Kim Alexander, who own the Holiday Village, got lucky when the tornado skipped over the top of their house (not the resort), and only took down big trees on both sides of the house. They looked as if they were twisted when they broke. Some of the trees fell on their fence, and powerlines, but all in all they were spared some big expense. They will be without power for 4-5 days he said, since some of the trees are laying on the powerlines and crews can't get to them yet.

p.s. You can see the path it took when you look from the west side of the city out to the island. One mile, or so, North and it would have missed the island and gone between Catawba and the other islands.
