View Full Version : Gary Roach planer board adjustments
I have a pair of Gary Roach planer boards and a pair of Off-Shore boards. I usually fish small lakes and pull #5 or #7 shad raps, etc.
However, my Off-shore boards work fine but the roach boards want to continually dive in and out of the water. I have tried different weight adjustments but can't get them to work.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
RR
Are you trolling into the waves? If so, it is always easier to go with them.
Maybe try moving the balist weight farther to the back causing the nose to come up.
Chad,
I always troll with the waves and moved the ballast part way to the back. I'm going out fishing tonite so I'll move the ballast further to the back to see if this helps.
Thanks,
RR

RR; How much line are you running from the Shad Raps up to the Board? I wonder if your line is too short not allowing the bait to reach their dive curve maximum, perhaps making the boards wanting to dive? I also have found that trolling at high speeds or if trailing some weed/garbage, will make the boards sometimes act weird. I have run Roach Boards for several years with all size baits and cranks and strongly prefer them. Good Luck Walleye Mike

Adjust the ballast weight and make sure the tow arm is not bent up or down- compare your boards. Also try the Roach TX-12 mini planers. For small baits and calm waters I use them almost exclusively. For what you describe they would be perfect. Very easy to read due to their small size and they have the same excellent releases as the big board.
