OK you calculators, figure this -- If I'm returning to port at dusk travelling 45 mph, will I flatten more or fewer bugs on my face than if I travelled 25 mph. It's the same distance, but more time on the water at 25. What say?

I actually saw a similar question an a magazine regarding rain. Do you get wetter walking and thus spending more time in the rain or running thus running into more. I would have assumed it would be the same but you actually get wetter by moving faster. I would assume the same would hold true for bugs. Also faster bugs may better avoid you at a slower speed. On this line, I have taken to wearing shop safety glasses for running at night to keep the bugs out of my eyes. Works very well!

I have no idea which method squashes more bugs, but I know that a helmet with a full face shield at dusk and dawn makes the squashing less painful for the human. Probably more pain for the bugs though.

Throw down the throttle and open your mouth for a cheap evening snack on the way back to the ramp. One suggestion though, when the june bugs are out, have a buddy trained in the hiemlich with you.
