View Full Version : Help! I need advice!
The Walleye Queen

My husband took me fishing last week for vacation & now he's so angry he won't talk to me. I think it's because I caught 24 Walleye & he only caught 7. He tells me the reason I caught more fish is because he had to navigate the boat! I encouraged him to use a green jig head but he wouldn't listen. I thought he was going to throw me overboard when he thought he hooked a fish & it was actually the motor. I told him I had a wonderful time...He said he'd never take me fishing again. He's the one who insisted we go in the first place - help!
Some advice

Tell the hot head to simmer down! Then you two should get in a tournament, with you poppin all the eye's, you cant help but do well.
Your hubby should feel very lucky that he has a wife that will fish with him.
Sounds like you should take the boat and leave your husband at home. I will be the first to admit that my wife will out fish me often. I would like to think it has to do with me navigating the boat, spending time re-tying her line, getting her bait.....But in reality she can just catch fish.
I think it has something to do with the smell of female hormones? I would be intrested to see if there is a differnce in catch rates amoung men verse women if they were put in identical situations.
Sounds like you had a great day of fishing!! Good luck and good fishing(sounds like you don't need luck)

My girlfriend often outfishes me. I do admit it has a lot to do with me playing with my fishfinder and radio etc. But she has a good time and I know my day will come. One thing I noticed is that she keeps her hand on her rod at ALL times and refuses to use the rod holder even when things are slow. We have a good time so I guess that makes it a successful fishing trip.

Women and kids catch more fish. My wife is my constant fishing partner. Frequently she will catch more fish than me. Your husband should be proud of the fact he guided you to those fish, as we all know boat control is critical to walleye success.
One late fall day, my wife caught a 12.5#, a 10# and an 8#. I got nothing. I liked watching her catch those fish!
I have also learned to trust her instincts on trying certain spots. She still has a lot to learn about walleye fishing but once in a while she "knows" where they are.
Hope your husband comes to his senses and takes you again.
Regards
I would guess he's a little put out by being out fished. I've been in that position too. I wasn't mad though. I've had my share of "the rookie caught all the fish" syndrome. As a matter of fact last fall my buddies from Bemidji called me up; their 4th for their fishing trip had to back out and they needed a replacement. 4 people, 2 boats. I was the only one they knew that could sit in a boat for 14 hours a day. I got loaned a Muskie rod and given some 50# Tuff Line. I bought a few baits and used my Abu 5500. My first boated 'ski ever was 52" long with a 27 1/4" girth! I'm never going to hear the end of this! "I told you, if anybody catches a forty pounder it'll be Matt!" "If anyone breaks fifty inches it'll be Matt!" "He's the luckiest ba***rd I know!" So, my advice to you, is to become the lucky charm.

Sounds like you've got a real winner (whiner). Be careful not to make more money than he does or you will be candidates for the rocks.

WQ,
My advice is the same as the person who suggested entering tourneys......with one additional piece of advice. Make sure your hubby gets LOTS of practice with the net so he doesn't knock your fish off. Congrats on your success. I wish my wife would fish with me.

Echoing the comments of many others, I'd love to have a woman to fish with and couldn't care less who caught the most fish. Tell him he's a lucky son of a gun and that you'd be happy to take him fishing anytime.

If I got pissy every time a women out fished me and left them at the dock from then on, I would be fishing alone mighty fast!
He is most likely less mad at you then himself, try the old "I don't understand this dear" routine. Nothing makes a wounded ego fell better then giveing advice? Cheap trick but it make break the ice? (:
My wife makes more money than I do and she usually out-fishes me. I like to take her trolling (she hates it, she loves to jig) because that way the "boat" catches the fish! Oh well, just so long as she keeps me living the life I'm accustomed to I'm very happy :). With the kids it's harder for us to get out together as much, but when we do I don't care a bit if she out-fishes me. I hope your husband comes to his senses and realizes how lucky he is!
Best Regards,

Your husband sounds like a whine-*** who doesn't deserve you. Tell him to grow up. If he cared 2 cents about you he would be happy for you. Sure my husband is envious when I out fish him but he is happy that we are catching fish. We were in a tourney this past weekend and I took first and he took third. Not one bad thing came out of his mouth. He was totally puffed up with pride. All I can say to you is don't even pay any attention to him. If he doesn't talk to you, good. One less person bugging you during the day. Also tell the big baby to put a pacifier in his mouth and take a nap.
Good luck and keep smiling.

If this offends any one (other than her husband) I really do apologize.
Your husband sounds like a complete jackass.
Keep the walleye, and throw HIM back!
