In your opinion, what is the best side planar and why. I have a pair of off brands that I would like to replace.

I use the Offshore Tackle inline sideplaners. They seem to be the most versitile, also more readily available in my area. Check out their website for each of their products as well as tips for using them.

Good Luck.

Hi Ed,

I like to use the Off Shore inline planer boards. Why? Because they are easy to use, and have Tattle Flag upgrade kits available. The reason I like to use the Tattle Flags is because I like to be able to tell when I have a small fish dragging behind the board, or if I'm dragging weeds on my lure. The flags will go down, making it possible to tell. Without the flags it is almost impossible to tell if your dragging weeds on your lures, and a lure with weeds on it, is an unproductive lure.

The flags are not needed to tell if you have big fish on, any board will tell you that. It's the little problems that are solved with the Off Shore brand.

Good shopping to you...

Ditto to both. My friend, after fishing his other board next to mine, switched to Off-Shore.

I have tried them all Ed. and I agree the OFF SHORE planer boards are simply the best!! I also suggest you purchase the new style with the Tattle Flag option. you wont be sorry you did!!!

I agree offshore is the best. Per someone on this boards suggestion I replaced the snaps on them with Gary Roach's trolling clips and this makes an awesome combo. Better for the superlines; easier to attach and unattach. Good Luck

I agree that Offshores are good and its what I have. But, I occasionally fish with a guy that uses board called "Willie Side Winder" or something like that. They are orange. They have nice releases. The best part is that they are reversible, the ballast weights are BB's and will go either way. You just turn the L-shaped realease holder up or down to ****ch sides. I've found that sometimes I want two or more off to one side, but have only one for each side.

Gotta vote for Gary Roach "Mr. Walleye" boards by Church Tackle Co. They don't have tattle flags, but so what - half the fun is trying to figure out if there is a fish on from the way the board acts! Also, note that the Offshore board, if you add the price of the tattle flag kit, is a lot more expensive.

Also they don't ever fall off the line, because one clip is integral. So you won't find yourself hitting the MOB button on your GPS and circling back to try to pick up a board....

I did that also about a month ago. Pretty slick. Best of both worlds.

Is there a reason offshore doesnt offer boards with the flags already installed,or am I not looking in the right magazines?

I've used both boards and to me the Roach boards are much easier to get off the line. Lift the pin and squeeze the clip and it's off. Much faster to remove when your trying to get a fish in!

The boards come with stationary flags, but if you want the flag to work, you will need the upgrade kit.
