The Mn DNR and the tribe have been meeting for days now, and still no word. Whats it going to be? Further restictions on the slot, closed season, what? I e-mailed the dnr and demanded an update and i further told them they better not dare go on their 4 day Thanksgiving holiday without some sort of update. I am looking at the bill on my kitchen table for the upcoming year for my fish house pull and i seriously don't know what to do. After all the shenanigans the dnr and the tribe have done in the past, i really wouldn't be shocked if they closed the season December 1st to mollify the tribes concern for the "overages". Sorry for the ranting, but it chaps my hide that the resort owners are stacking up the fish houses on the shore, ready to pull, they're waiting for our checks to buy Christmas presents, ice is forming and still nothing, not even an announcement that there is no decision yet. God, i hope Pawlenty appoints Sternberg for commish

Sternberg is a one-trick pony, unqualified to head up the DNR. He knows one or two things about fish, nothing about all the many other facets of the DNR (parks, forestry, mining, hunting, enforcement, etc.).

Walk softly and carry a big fish.

Another bit of wisdom from our cheap shot specialist, Hans.

I have no Idea if Sternburg is qualified to head up the DNR but as a guest your cheap shot is way worse than Hans is :(

Pitts,

While I agree that there are cheap shots (yours included), I think that the "one-trick" shot should have had some substance to back it up.

How does Hans know that Sternberg is not qualified? Who is qualified?

Regarding mmillelacs.... I feel for ya dude!! It has to be about as tough as it gets for the businesses around there. Kind of like when a company announces a layoff and you aren't sure if you are on "the list."

Good luck to ya,

Hans, Sternberg did work for the DNR for a number of years, so I do think he knows more than you give him credit for.

I agree. Finally a year where the lake freezes over in November and we don't know if there will be a season. I hope the state doesn't fold under the pressure from the tribes.

And I'm on the same page as Hans....Sternberg head of DNR - NO. Head of fisheries - Maybe.

Agree with most all of it. Lets get the shacks out on the ice, and I've heard Sternberg refered to as a fisheries biologist, but lets not make him king of the hill because you agree with him on one issue.-lb

Maybe?

Sternberg would be better qualified than some of the boneheads we have had to endure from past administrations. That is probualy why he won't get it. Sternberg deserves far more credit than he has recieved. His commonsence and logical approach to the problems facing Minnesota would be a breath of fresh air in an otherwise room of stale farts. "Hunt the empty skies and fields of Minnesota."

I talked to Sternberg yesterday and he said "There's no way" he want's the job.

Isn't there enough Republicans in the U.S. Congress yet to alter the treaties? Let's get after them.
