Howdy,
I was planning on using either 10# or 12# Berkley Vanish for my leaders off dipseys for trolling Erie. Is this heavy enough? Any suggestions?
Thanks......Drift'r

Yes. Be sure to use Snubbers on your leaders to prevent break offs and stop the fish from using the dipsey to gain leverage and throw the hook.

What # test would be the smallest you would trust?
Thanks .....D

with the flouracarbon i wouldnt go less than 10, and maybe even heavier, like 12 or 14 pound test. be sure to use the snubber. and a light drag. good luck and good fishin.

We use 20 or 25# pure flourocarbon (vanish is not 100% flourocarbon) Seaguar or P Line. Real stiff and kinky but TUFF. Jerk sheephead in with the stuff with no ill effects. The lighter stuff will break on steelhead takes. Goodluck.

You have said that Vanish is not 100% floro. Have you noticed any physical differences between the two? Stretch, abrasion resistance, invisibilty, etc... Thanx!

Yup, I went 2 for 2 in terms of steelies breaking 10# test Vanish last trip (hey, that sounds much better than 0 for 2). I've moved up to 12# Vanish and hope it's enough. BTW, I noticed that Vanish rated higher than 12# says "for casting reels only", presumably because it's not perfectly round?

Jim,
I can't find the Seagar around here, maybe up at the lake I will. I have noticed that Seargar has leader floro & reel packs. Any difference in the two. Also do you use a snubber.
Thanks.....D

Driftr, there is a difference in the leader and reel packs. the leader is a truer diameter, and costlier than the reel pack. definately use a snubber with the true flouracarbon leaders, especially if you use a heavy leader. good luck and good fishin.
