I would like to try trolling leadcore this year. What kind, weight, and all that kind of stuff do I need to look at? Also, what are you guys using for a leader and how do you attach it to the lead? I have no idea? Thanks, ?

Most go with the 18# leadcore. Leader length varies by fisherman. Anywhere from 2' to 30'. It depends on how you attach you leader to your lead. I use a uni to uni knot which allows me to reel the knot thru my eyes and into the spool. Some use a small swivel which I wouldn't want to have run over my guides. Leader material ranges from fireline, mono, etc...

You must first remove the lead from the center of the line and then go ahead and tie a double uni-knot with 10# test of your favorite mono.

?,

Been using leadcore for smallies, walleye, and striper up to 20#'s.

I use 27# because the diameter is the same as 18 and I troll through lots of trees. If I didn't have the snag problem, I would be using 18#.

Krazy glue method to attach leader to my line and it works great even on the Striper (never a failure in 70+ fish this year). Slip the outer nylon back, cut about an inch of lead, run your florocarbon into the nylon, saturate with regular Krazy Glue, wait 30 seconds, reel on 50 feet of leader and you are set. This is my live bait setup, if you are going segmented, you need to change up the leader possibly if you are pulling cranks. There is a lot dependent on what you will be pulling and how deep you want to fish.

Live bait and this setup works well. I have 10# mono backing, 200 feet of 20# Fire and 10 colors of 27# lead on the Daiwa Great Lakes 47 reels with room for very long leaders. This allows me to drag bait along the bottom in very deep water. It has proven to be incredibly effective.

Good luck,
