Stupid trolling question but....

Ok this may sound rather dumb but here is the deal. I have one baitcasting reel and one line counter. I can't afford to get another line counter at this time but I want to put lead core on one and fireline on the other both will hold ample lead core. which one shoudl I use for the lead core? is it critical to have a line counter with lead core? I fish mainly rivers?

Put the lead core on the baitcasting reel. Lead core is color coded (1 color per 10 yards) so you don't need to use a line counter reel with it.

Since you are mainly fishing rivers I would put the lead core on the standard reel (not the line counter). When fishing lead in rivers you pretty much let out the lead until the bait ticks bottom and then reel up a couple of turns. No great need for a line counter in this situation.
