I bought the lowrance LMS 240 last summer and was wondering if anybody has one or similar and are using the hot spot electronic charts, thinking of buying one for lake michigan, are they pretty accurate? Sounds like the 2003 will be out this spring just wondering if I schould wait. Like to try it on little bay de noc this winter, put it in the truck, I have a cigarette lighter adapter for it . Thanks for any info.

Hi,
I had the Hot Map for Lake of the Woods, and did not find it accurate. Rarely did it show a reef, and I was on it. If I was close to shore, the plotter often showed me on land. Navionics exchanged the Hot Map, for the XL Chart, and it is by far more accurate.
99% of the time it indicates that I am on structure, and I am. Rarely shows me on land when I am close. I am a thousand times happier with the XL Chart, than the Hot Map.
I would also keep my eye on the "Reel Bottom" software. I plan to try this for LOTWs when it available after the first of the year.

I have ised for Lake Michigan and Little bay and found it to be very accurate. I have both the Navionics map for Green Bay and then the Hot Spots map for LBDN. I run a Global Map 1600.

As a general rule I find the Hot Spot maps to be good for finding your way around the lake in a general manner, but they are pretty sketchy about things below the surface. As one example, I fish Lake Vermilion a quite a bit, and Hot Spots is missing perhaps 50% of the mid-lake structure like sunken islands, reef outlines, etc.
Walk softly and carry a big fish.

I have area 5 which is the upper midwest.
I found that on Rainy lake the maps were very accurate and easy to use.
Mille Lacs and Pool 4 are a different story they are off by a good 100 to 150 yds.
Kinda frustrating but I am going to try some other settings when I get back up there the next time to see if it is the machine not the software.
