About 2 - 3 years ago there was quite a discussion on towing your boat behind a travel trailer or 5th-wheel on this chat site. There was a lot of discussion about maximum total length of the rig. What is the maximum length of truck, trailer and boat/trailer in the various states and what is this type of outfit called so I can look up with various states? I have a new Chevy with crew cab and short bed that is 20 feet and an 1890 Pro-v that from tongue to tip of skeg is 25 feet not sure I can add a trailer and be legal except out west?

The rules for "double bottom" towing vary from state to state. You might check the "Good Sam" or "Trailer Life" web sites for a listing. Some states don't allow it under any circumstances.
Here in Minnesota, the rules are:
Maximum length of the rig from the truck front bumper to the prop on the boat is 65-feet.
The RV must be a 5th wheel, not a travel trailer.
The maximum RV length is 28-feet, regardless of the 65-feet rule.
The second trailer must carry a recreation-related cargo (boat, ATV, PWC, etc.)
No travel in 7-county metropolitan area during rush hours (6-9AM, 3-6PM I think).
Walk softly and carry a big fish.

The overall length in Minnesota is 60 feet, Wisconsin and Iowa are 65, and the Dakotas are 75-80 feet. The following is from the www.mndot.com website:
Can I tow a boat behind my towed camper?
Yes. It must be a fifth wheel camper no more than 28 feet long and the overall combination of the three vehicles can be no longer than 60 feet. This combination may NOT be operated within the 7 county metro area during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
I have talked to two coworkers that tow boats behind their fifth wheels. They both say it works great!

After reading the link dave put up it looks like more people should know what there are talking about before telling others bad info.

I looked at the link Dave put up, and many entries in that table are flat-assed wrong. For example, the 75' foot limit for Minnesota is NOT correct for "triple towing".
Merry Christmas.
