What is the best type of jig style for the fast detroit river?

Most people just use the standard round jig head. While jig style doesn't vary much, there is a lot more variability in jig size, color, and what to tip it with (bait and/or plastic).

"Detroit river jigs" Hi I fish the lower Trenton channel and I use 3/8 round jigs tipped with a minnow. I live in the area if you need some pointers where to go let me know.

Many variables will indicate what size/type of jig to use. You can get away with as light as 1/4 oz in the lower river stretches on a windless day. Upriver, sometimes you need as much as 1 full ounce on the windiest days. In GENERAL, plain round jig heads in the 3/8 to 3/4 ounce size will meet 90% of the conditions. Use a superbraid line to enhance feel. Experiment with different soft plastic baits as well. Tipping with minnows is used my most, but seldom necessary.

You can fish as light as 1/4 oz in the Trenton Channel, but plan on loosing many as the snags are all over. Have used up to 1 oz in the upper river, usually use 1/2 or 5/8ths if its not too windy. Basic round head is fine in most spots. Agree with Tom, minnows are overrated when the water is over 44-45 degrees.
