I have a 97 9.9hp 4 stroke yamaha kicker that doesn't want to run when it gets hot 90 degrees plus. The primer bulb goes empty but does not collapse and the motor quits. On really hot days this happens as often as every ten minutes. I took my boat to the local dealer he replaced the fuel pump, of course the temperature was in the 70's. He couldn't get it to fail. The following weekend the motor wouldn't run again. So I purchased a small 3 gallon gas can to try the motor ran fine on a hot day. Today i took my floor out of my boat checked connections swapped fuel lines between my 9.9 and 175hp anything I could think of. The only thing I can think of is that on hot days the 9.9hp doesn't have enough suction to pull gas from the hull of my boat. I need help!!! The new fuel pump cost $110 and my boat still doesn't work. This same motor will run from sunset to sunrise with missing a beat.

It sounds like to me you have a small pin hole in your fuel line. Replace it, you said the motor ran fine on the 3 gallon fuel tank, the heat would have nothing to do with it. I have seen this happen before, and the fuel line has always been the problem. Skeet

I went so far as to take the new hose and quick disconnect off of my 3 gal and connect it to my fuel tank in the hull because I wasn't sure if it was the hose or the check ball on my main tank. When it worked on the portable 3 gal tank the tank was sitting on top of the floor, which is about 18 inches higher than the other tank. What should I try next.

IF you did that and it did'nt work, then it sounds like you have a vent problem with that kicker tank. Sometimes I have seen algee plugg one of the small vent holes on the side of the boat. If thats ok you may need to take the floor up again and check the vent hose for a kink. I have a Skeeter and I had a kink in my vent hose for the kicker tank. Its diffently a problem with the gas lines or vent. There is nothing wrong with the motor. Skeet
