I went on a charter out of St. Joe Michigan last week and the captain used stinger spoons with size 0 dipsy divers and a snubber. I asked him how to work a dipsy and he showed me the different number settings but could only give me rule of thumb regarding the depth it reaches. He told me a size 0 will go about 50' deep with 100 yards of line out depending on diameter of line and overall speed. I went to Gander Mt and looked at them and whoever makes them chooses to not give you any instructions with them. Any suggestions on depth and size?

Go to WWW.luhrjensen.com. Tech tips and click on table for depth chart. Precision trolling also has a chart for dipseys. Speed and line diameter are the important variables.

If your going to take it serious you have to own THE PRECISION TROLLERS BIBLE it has all the depth and dive curves you need to figure things out.The book ranges around $25.00 and is worth every dime.

I've started 3 times to try and answer. It's just too deep to properly answer here. Get the book, it will make alot of sense. We run 4 on each side on 35/8 superline, at around 2.8 mph. At shorter drop lengths (30-50') add 10' between 1 & 2, 12' between 2&3, and 15' between 3&4. I know there is no 4 but just put the arrow where 4 ought to be. As drop lenghths increase so should the distances between. With superbraids snubbers are almost manditory ( especially for steelhead). This is for #1 Dipsy with the rings. Hope this helps, Good luck.
