Wondering what are the best planer boards out there? Tried some inexpensive ones (including home made) and can't seem to get them to track right. They either follow way behind the boat, run sideways, or just generally screw up. Is there a minimum amount of line you have to let out? Also, is it necessary to have a mast? I'm running mine clamped on the bow rail. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx, JohnP

You won't have any of those problems with the Off Shore brand. Check them out here at Walleye Central on the Mainpage. Just click on the Off Shore Logo.
Check down the board for a previous post about in-line boards and who likes which and why.

From your comment about a mast, I assume you're asking about full sized boards in lieu of in-lines. I'd stick with a known design or a reputable manufacture. Off-Shore makes a collapsable set of boards, that are easy to store, non marring, and they track well. They are redesigned for a wider foot print, and properly weighted. Check em out under "Products". They are sponsors here as well. Good luck. Time on the water is too precious to be dinkin with stuff that doesn't work.

Planner board masts will allow you to run your boards out farther without touching the water with the tow line. Plus it seems that your realse will run out faster.
I think you should usea name brand also. We use Willie boards
