I just purchased the Garmin 126. I recieved some good coments about this unit from people on this board. It is a very easy unit to use and the cost wasn't to hard to swallow. I think it is a very nice unit.

Take a good look at the Raytheon units... The 520 model is super-it also takes C-Map chips... A lot of the Pros are going to this unit... They also have some new units coming out that will be accurate to 2 1/2 meters...

Hey Fishermanartur,

You use Lowrance now, right? Do you like it? If so, stick with what works. I have two Lowrance 160's on my boat and love them. The CD Rom map system is unbelieveable.

High detailed maps, no map cartridges to by, no map readers. All you need is supplied with easy directions. The technology in this area is only going to grow, bigger and better.

Good luck....R

I second Nofish. I have a Lowrance Globalmap 1600 and it is everything I need. The detail on Canadian maps is somewhat lacking but I haven't seen that the competition is any better. Since I am Canadian and use my unit almost exclusively in Canada more detail would be great. Maybe an upgrade will be available soon.

Before you buy, check out the Magellan 6500 unit. Its very easy to use,has a great screen, uses c-nt maps and the detail is unbelieveable!! I bought mine a Franks GreatOutdoors in Linwood, Mi right on Saginaw bay. This unit is really getting hot with the guys on the big bay!!

I've got the Lowrance GlobalMap 1600 and it works great for me. I'm happy with the CDrom based software maps I can upload to the GPS for additional detail. I can also purchase greater detailed maps for it from Navionics (sp).
