Rookie question - snelled hooks

What is the advantage of a snelled hook versus just tying the line to the eye of the hook? Thanks.

I tie my own double/triple hook snells for running spinners or dragging crawlers with a split-shot. A properly snelled rig helps keep the hooks in line to minimize snagging, possibly improve hook-set, and maintain a more natural look to the crawler (straight). The knots are more durable as well.
