Will be fishing in Canada soon on a fly-in trip and plan to use a 3 way swivel with floating spinner rig and single hook with leech, appears most water is in the 10 to 20 foot range.

Would like to know the best weight size and snell length for this type of rig.

Thanks for any input.

Weight size is going to depend on how fast your moving. If your drifting this rig, then it depends on the wind. Whatever it takes to keep it on the bottom.

Snell length: Start out long, say 6'...then shorten if you need to. You can always shorten them, you can never make them longer once they're made.
If your using a float on this rig, then the longer your lead is, the higher off the bottom it is going to run. Find out where the fish are with your electronics, and use that depth to give you an idea how long your lead should be.

Don't forget to adjust your dropper line length to meet conditions too.

Don't be set on using one technique either. Be versitile...find out what the fish want and go from there.

Best of luck to you up there. Sounds like fun!

Hey Bode,

To add to what Juls said, I typically tie my 3 ways in a 3 to 1 ratio. Simply put, with a 10 inch dropper, I'd run a 30 inch snell. 5 inch dropper, 15 inch snell.

Also, floaters will ride higer depending on length of snell, and boat speed. If you are going/drifting along at 1 mph, your floater will be about the same height off the bottom as your dropper.

Longer snells do work well with spooky fish as the longer the snell, the less jerky the movement of the bait will be. This is why we sometimes use snells up to 10 feet, the presentation is far from the weight, and more natural looking.

Good luck........R
