I am considering the purchase of a used boat that has vex flashes front and back, both FL-18's. I know it's kind of a personal preference thing but would it be better to have a graph in the back? I am more used to fishing with a graph but have heard good things about the Vexilar flashers as well. Thanks

I have flashers in my boat, a Zercom in the front and a Vexilar in the back, and wouldn't be without them.

However with that said, I am used to them, and if you are more used to graphs, then it may be difficult for you to get the hang of flashers.

I'll tell you this, neither of these flashers lie! When they show fish under you at a perticular depth, by golly, that's where they are! You may not be able to get those sun-of-a-gun fish to bite, however they are there!

Try them for a while before spending the cash to change them out. If you like em', keep em'. If you don't like em' contact me and I just may buy them off you!

I recently got the opportunity to use my new F18 and all I have to say about this unit is "WOW" I ran it next to my Lowrance flasher and there was no comparison. This unit will be on the bow of my boat next year. I made sure I purchased an upgraded unit with the bottom lock updates for improved performance in rougher water. I think Vexilar will upgrade older units with this feature also....

OK, if I keep the Vexilar's and put my money into a GPS unit instead which ones would be good options? Would you go with a handheld or mounted one.

It the boat? ... Mounted. The screens are much larger and easier to see, and it is always right where it was last.
