was wondering about trolling river sections, mostly the shallower sections (4-8'). should I long line baits right behind me or should I run planners off to the side.
Thanks

Tony, As a general rule; stained or dark water-you can get away with flatline. But in a clear situation, go with the boards for sure. Also it depends on how many lines you are planning or allowed to run. In Wi. we can have 3 lines per fisherman. So if two of us are out trolling and we want to run 6 lines, it's no problem with the boards. They give you the spread needed to cover lots of water and keep tangles to a minimum. Hope this helps some.<;{{{{{<<(

Trolling certain sections of a river is something I do a lot. Whenever trolling shallow I trim my motor up to avoid wrecking my prop. I always troll up river to avoid snags. I use #5 shallow shad raps in depths of 3-5 feet. No need for boards most of the time although if your after bigger fish it sometimes helps. I use #5 deep divers for 8-10 feet. I haven't found a good lure for the 5-8 foot range that produces as well as the other two. Hope this helps. Good fishing!!!
