There have been some other posts on Milford lake. I`m also going and you will be able to pick up some odds and ends here and there.Go back a few pages and you will find them. Also try digging into some webpages for the area and you should be able to find out more about the lake. Good luck getting someone else to do your homework for you.LOL See you there,John Mannerino

Hi Jim, I hope we could weigh some fish at this one!!!!!! Mille Lacs was the only place you can catch 85lbs of fish in a day and zero out!!!!!! Stay in touch, John

I agree John. Mille Lacs is a tremendous fishery but so frustrating. It just seemed backwards to hook a fish and tell your partner, as he jumps up with the net, "Sit down, it's another big one". Lol. We only weighed in 4 slots for the event. I'd hate to try to estimate our total poundage caught over the entire week but we had a ball. I'm sure hoping to do better at Milford. Good luck to you!

I fish Milford often (20 times/yr). The most beneficial tools you can have at Milford are:

1. A USGS map of the lake. This lake has more structure than an average fisherman knows what to do with. Many midlake humps, mudflats, stumpfields, rock points, creek channels etc. Go to www.kdwp.ks.us and navigate around I think that is where I bought my map. It is a fairly well detailed map.

2. Slab spoons. While fishing there you will notice that many of the locals use nothing but slab spoons for all species all the time.

3. Contact local baitshops before you leave as to what kind/quality of live bait they have. My experience down there has been that most have crappie minnows and nightcrawlers and that's it. The first time I asked for leaches down there they looked at me like I was crazy. I buy my bait before I leave for Milford.

4. Take some time and equipment to fish for Wipers while you are there. It is an incredible Wiper fishery.

Not very many people fish Milford for Walleyes and I kinda wanted to keep it that way. But I guess it couldn't last forever. I don't claim to be an expert fisherman or an expert on Milford Reservoir but I have been able to catch alot of nice fish there. Good luck to all Cabelas Team Championship fishermen.

Fishing is: One jerk waiting for another jerk at the end of his line.

Same thing here.

Our typical banter at Mille Lacs during the NTC:

Me: Got one!
Partner: Any good?
Me: Yeah, but keep fishing it's too big, I'll net it.

Or the rare scenario:

Partner: Got one!
Me: Any good?
Partner: Yeah, he's coming up quick and feels light, get the net!

I LOVED fishing Mille Lacs, I just hated the slot.

Best Regards,

FJH

Sorry about the three identical posts. Each time I tried to post this message the site didn't complete the action. I guess it caught up.

A Wiper is a Hybrid White Bass/Striper better described as a White Bass on steroids. They can get as big as 20 lbs and are the greatest fighting fish I have ever tangled with. Milford has an abundance of Wipers in the 6-12 lb range with an occasional 16 lbr. This is the species that the lake is managed for.
