Does anyone have any sugestions on how to keep the taper lock pedestals from getting stuck in the base. I have a new lund and the taper locks get stuck so badly that some times it takes a rubber mallet to loosen them up so you can move them. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you solve it. Thanks for any help.
LAST EDITED ON Jul-05-00 AT 10:04AM (CST)[p]I have a Lund with the taper lock pedestals. I periodically wipe the plastic part that slips into the base with Armoral.
Caution...I have heard and read on this board that applying a product like Armoral CAN have detrimental effects, such as the pedestal coming out of the base while someone is sitting on it. After 1-1/2 years of using Armoral I have had no problems what so ever.

this is a small detail, but I initially had trouble removing mine also and I eventually found that if I grab onto both sides of my seat with my upper arms while I hold the tab in with my hands and jiggle the seat side to side a little while pulling up, they come right out. give it a try, works for me.

Funny - I keep a rubber mallet in the boat just for that reason!!
I was on Mille Lacs yesterday and had one stuck so bad I couldn't get it out, even with the mallet (of course, I didn't eat my Wheaties, either!)
Soooo, I'm gonna be addressing that problem tonight. I recall hearing that paraffin wax works well, as does Armor All. You may also want to try sanding the edges if the plastic and metal (in the base) slightly. Do NOT use WD40 or the like! I was on Mille Lacs a few weeks ago, as was a friend of mine and his buddy. I watched his buddy fall off the front deck of a Pro V TWICE when the pedestal came loose from the floor, and it was dead calm that day. He used WD40!

Keep them very clean and I spray WD40 all over mine. I used to have the same problems as you describe but I have done this for 3 years now and they come out smoothly every time. Have never had a seat come out when I did not want it to.
I 2nd your comment on WD - 40. I have used WD-40 since new -- contrary to directions and have never had one come out when not wanted, but always come out very easily, when desired.
Take care

I haven't tried the WD-40 yet, but I think I just might now...The last time I was out, I had the same problem with my seats (Crestliner seats, not Lund). I tried a bit of Vaseline and it seemed to work really well.

I tried the armour all trick and it seems to help, although after a day on Mille Lacs in 2-3 footers
I still had one that was tough to get out. I will try the wd-40 trick next.

While WD40 may work, I simply use my foot to depress the pedestal lock while lifting the seat. Rock the seat if necessary while depressing the lock. Works every time.

ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS WAX THE BOTTOM PART OF THE PEDESTAL WITH JUST PLAIN WAX AND THEN LEAVE YOUR RUBBER MALLETS AT HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another vote for paraffin wax. I bought a new Lund last year and after a few uses the seat bases were starting to stick. A little paraffin on the black plastic and they were good for the rest of the season. This spring I cleaned the black plastic and the base and reapplied a little paraffin and have had no problems.

I use the "push the lever with your foor / tug with your arms" method. Also, occasionally rub the contact surfaces with wax paper. No problems.
