What are your thoughts of the appointment of Gene Merriam as the new DNR chief. His background sure seems better than the fellow he is replacing. The one thing that scares me is the fact that he is/was a politician. The fat is already quite heavy in St. Paul.

good choice! also, the new deputy DNR commissioner (mark holsten)is even a better choice. pawlenty has made several great appointments already. can you imagine the challenge that all of these people face? the "ventura" deficit is so mind boggling. wish the new administration luck, but most importantly we need to give them the support they need. this is the time to share your ideas with the new administration. have fun fishing.
I second it. He's a great choice!

If Bob Lessard thinks he is a good choice, then he must be!

Every Jesse era appointee replaced by the new gov is a plus. Jesse was an accidential Governor who installed a bunch of nitwit commissioners and drove the state goverment into the ground. He will be a footnote in MN history as the most ineffective governor ever.

Whatever. He shook things up and made people think about things other than Demo or Repub. I have to say that I'm glad my vehicle registration is lower, although still higher than other states. At least he tried. This state is a joke and is so far in the crapper due to the Demo's that run it into the ground the past 10+ years. All I have to say is what state other than Delaware voted for Mondale in the Presidential election? Don't MN people have a clue? 48 other states knew better.

Well now that governor goofy is gone maybe we can get back to the issues facing the state. Our DNR , no matter who is running it must listen to what the sports people think. We as a group are more qualified to inject opinions and options than professional politicians.
Manage the resources and treat all groups equally and with respect and we will return our state to the wonderful land that it was.
No one can argue that the past adminastration was about Jessie and Jessie only.
Hopefully the people will be heard now.

We heard after the Wellstone memorial that Bill Clinton was going to be offered the Mn, DNR position; Bill knowns everything about the "wildlife"
