I bought the guidewear last year and I cannot believe that I didn't get it sooner. It is THE BEST! How many of you guys wear the guidewear as your "regular" fishing coat (as opposed to just in rain)? I wore it in the fall and again this spring every time out and stayed dry with all the splashing that you normally take. How will this coat hold up to regular (1-2 days/week) wear? Thanx!

I wear my Guide Wear jacket a lot. I usually wear it every time I hit the water (over 100 days per year for the last few years). It has held up great.

I wear mine 50 days (Spring, Fall, and Rain) a year and have had it for five years. No leaking and still looks new. Just one thing, never wash Gore-Tex and it will last along time.

Gross! See my response to similar post last week for how to care for your Gore-Tex! I don't know if Guide Wear comes with care instructions, but proper cleaning will actually help it maintain its performance and extend its life. Plus, you'll be able to wear it in public without sending children running to their mother from the stench. :)

My wife and I have had the guide wear since it first came out maybe 15 years ago. The only complaint we have is the suspenders needed an "H" bar so they don't slide off your shoulders. We wear our units all over the world without a failure. together we fish 200-250 days/year waering the gear in everything but summer weather.I wear it offshore all the time. I also have the guidewear jacket 5 years, much better than anything else on the market. My friend Steve Abel also wears guidwear and he fishes more than we do.

Only available through Cabela's. It will run about $350 for the set. It is by far the best. Check it out at http://www.cabelas.com/.

That's not a bad price! I paid more than that for just my jacket!

I must be the only one in the world with Guidewear problems. First, let me preface by stating that the Guidewear is great stuff and I still use it even though I have had problems. I have had my Guidewear for 7 years and wear it extensively to fish in the winter, spring and fall. I don't wear it in the summer as I have some lighter ultrex stuff. The guidewear really cuts the wind and will keep you dry all day if used properly. I have worn my guidewear to ski, hike, and backpack. Unfortunately, the zipper on my bibs went bad after 4 years of use. My friends comment that the zipper broke because of my "unique" stomach contours:-). However, the zipper on one leg of my bibs has also crapped out and the velcro closures on the parka are loose in several places. I brought these problems to Cabelas attention and I didn't feel their response was satisfactory. I'm replacing the zippers and velcro for this season and if I ever replace the suit I'll shop around before buying Guidewear again. Just my $.02. Tight lines. Dave

Interesting. I also had a zipper on my bibs go bad last year. Took them to the Prairie Du Chein store and they replaced them, no questions asked. I was more than pleased.

All this and more...it is probably about the toughest raingear going. I do wear it most all the time I fish with an outer jacket. I do alot of
steelhead fishing, which means that I end up busting trails, going into thorn thickets, sliding down hills, climbing up trees, etc, and the Guidewear is the best thing going. As expensive as it seems, friends of mine pay $100-$150 more for a goretex fly fishing jacket,..and can rip it to shreds within a couple of years. Yet, this
guidewear still holds up and keeps water out, even
when one slips into the river itself.

Cleaning it is a good idea. I'm tired of all the
racoons that follow me around.

Enjoy!

Fred, I took mine to Prairie as well and they told me that my stuff was too old to replace at 4 years but that they would give me $100.00 credit towards a new purchase. When I inquired about repair I was told that I would have to sent the stuff to a Wisconsin address and it would take approx. 6 weeks for return. I wasn't real happy with that approach and have continued to wear the stuff with the broken zippers and bad velcro. I got wet last year due to the bad velcro and decided to have the stuff fixed for this year. I still like my suit but I'm cautious about Cabela's service. I'm glad to hear that you were treated well. Good fishin'. Dave
