I looked at a 2002 Ranger 620 with a 225 Yamaha V-Max on it. What is everyone's thaughts on this engine. I know the gas and oil thing is possibly a issue, but do you thing the resale value is also a issue.

I run a V-Max on my 2002 619, I have no issues with it and as far as resale I don't see any reason why you would have a problem. It is a great motor. By the way, thoughts is spelled THOUGHTS.

I ran that very motor for the last two years on my tournament boat and absolutely loved it. Yes it will use a little more gas than an HPDI or Four stroke, but the performance it delivers is awesome!
I NEVER worried that my motor would not start, or run properly in any tournament for the last two years. It is extremely dependable, and fast.
As far as resale, you're paying less for it upfront so it won't be worth as much as an HPDI in the end. Just the way it is.

Good Luck on your choice, and have fun on th ewater this year!

I currently run a V-Max 225 on my 2001 Ranger 620. I have noting but good things to say about the motor and its performance but make sure that you use a fuel additive called ring free. Without this additive the O2 sensor gets carbon build up, effects engine performance, and is costly to replace.

I run a VMax on my Skeeter ZX2050. I had an Optimax on a Targa 2000 prior. The VMax accelerates MUCH faster but uses about 25 to 35 percent more fuel. Could be the way I drive though :)

Just a note also. A relative took my Mercury Temptest 23 pitch and put it on his Yamaha V-Max (had a 23 pitch), and he gained darn near 7 mph. I don't think there is a 620 that can keep up with him and he now can darn near beat my Tuffy!!!

Great motor. I have ran mine for year and love it. I do run the yamaha clean through about ever 4 tanks.
I fished Canada this year for two week straight went through a tank of fuel every other day and 7 gallons of oil. But like frogman said you are not paying the higher price for the motor I can't see that much saving in fuel.
One good thing when you turn the key she will run.

Great choice...

I would have more of a problem with the Ranger than I would with the Yami V-Max. Great motor backed by a great company! (all that praise coming from a Mercury Man) Good choice...
