I have a contour map of a lake, but cannot figure out the distance of the breaklines or the shoreline to reef(s) while Icing
I wanna figure this RES. but the map I have only shows breaklines

Ok enough of that HERE IS THE MATH PROBLEM I'm working on
I have 2.6 miles of shoreline says the map book so I took my little
ruler and guesstimated as I put it around corner to corner etc etc
and came up with 25.25" on a normal scale on the fish map book
I'm having the math blues trying to get this shoreline miles to SCALE so I can better map this lake
This a 220 acre Res that is still to big to figure on a cold day

If anyone could help me with the 2.6 shore acres with the --25.25" measured with my ruler(scale)around the little map I have What would the distance per inch be on my scale to judge the distance (per) the scale be?

If nobody can figure this out then at least tell me how many inches are in a mile
I think I can break it down after that
My calculator is working on overload
THANKS

5280 ft in a mile, divide that by 12 inches in a foot. That gives you 63360 inches in a mile.

I need to go home.

There are 63360 inches in a mile. If you want the area or the number of square inches in a square mile, that number is 4,013,355,318. Thanks, now my head hurts!!!!

63,360" in a mile (5280' X 12")

If you round the 25.25 inches around the lake up to 26 inches you would divide by 2.6 mi for 10" per mile.
10" would equal 5280 feet, so 1" should be approximately 528 feet.

I'm not completely certain of the question, but I'll try---
If you are asking what 1" equals if 25.25" = 2.6 miles, then the answer is 1" = 0.103 miles (2.6 miles/25.25 inches)or approximately 544 feet/inch (0.103 miles x 5,280 feet/mile).

You also mentioned 2.6 shore acres and this is the point where things get a little fuzzy. I'm not sure exactly what you're asking on this point. I'm guessing its a typo and the answer you're looking for is 544 feet to the inch on the map.

LCFish, I got 572 feet to the inch, but I was using rounded off figures. Considering what the others came up with, if you peg it at about 540-550' per inch it should get you pretty darn close to that reef! :)
