You always hear about trolling at night during a full moon. (I've done Mille Lacs under a full moon.) This time I'll be on the lakes in a couple weeks during a new moon. Are the fish more active during the full moon than a new or 1/4 moon or is it just the fact that fishermen can see better during a full moon that makes the fishing more attractive? Would it be a waste of time to try?
I'm a big believer in moon phases. Three days before/after and during a new or full moon. I keep a journal and my best days fishing and my best fish come during a new or full moon. Thats not to suggest that the moon is the only factor. I've had lousy days during a moon when the weather wasn't stable. And I've had good days outside of a moon when other conditions made it ideal. Fish need to eat and more than just twice a month. I really don't know that full is better than new or vice versa. I certainly don't think that you'll be wasting your time!
