I am going to mount some scotty's rod holders in my sylvan profisherman and was wondering if a guy could rivet the bases to the sides or wouldn't that take the stress or could a guy just screw them on or should they be bolted?
Thanks
Chad
I used stainless bolts and stainless nyloc nuts when mounting Ram holders to my 1973 14' Lund Deep Fisherman (old fashioned open boat with wooden seats). I had to put a 1/4" spacer between the rod holder and the hull so the rod holder post would clear the gunnel. I have had no problems with this mounting on the heavy guage aluminum of the Lund.
Bolt them and as the other post suggested, use nyloc nuts. And at minimum, use large washers behind the mount. A wood or metal backing plate is even better reinforcement.
