View Full Version : Say What You Want..Many Of You Settle For Less..

than what you want in a boat because of price. I have read here many times that someone buys X boat (which is smaller) because Y & Z (which is what you really want) are too expensive. Now, some of you are slamming me because I stated on the boats & motors page that you settled for a 617 instead of getting what you want in a 619. To say that a 617 will do what a 619 will do and that it has more fishing room is totally dumb. To say you decided on a 617 because of a garage that is too small means that you settled on a 617 because you could not afford to enlarge the garage; however you still really wanted a 619. I still say most who choose the 617 do so because of price..the 619 is too much money for you..it has nothing to do with really wanting the smaller/less equiped 617.

I chose a smaller boat because it fit my lifstyle better. What do you say to me and other who had the bigger boat and downsized on purpose? You are right in that price can make a difference but bigger is not always better. If so why are we not fishing out of 30 foot boats? Sounds like a case of some type envy to me, :)

Life has many compromises. I'd like a bigger house, a bigger garage, a newer truck, and a bigger salary, but because I choose to live within my means, I'm settling? You make it sound like a bad thing. How much is too much? Too much boat, too much motor, too much house, too much truck, or too much fishing. (like that's possible!) It's all different for each person. This has got to be one of the dumbest things I have ever seen posted here. Just an opinion.

if you said what you have to say over on the boats and motors board then let it go ! why post the same thing over here ! just relax a little ! i hope someone hit the alert !

Actually, The smaller boats are more manuverable in tight spots, and can be launched on lakes that have less developed ramps. The bigger boats have more storage and take bigger water. Funny how life is almost always a 2 edged sword. -lb

Black619,

So what should I say if I think you made a horrible choice in buying a Ranger all together - 619 or otherwise? It was my choice to own a Ranger 620 in the past and I regret it. So do express to you how bad of a choice you made and tell you - you settled and didn't make an educated purchase buying your 619??? No - the reason and choice is up to you for your own reasons. Everyone - ok 99% - of people have some limitation when it comes to their boat. If not, buying a boat would not be an issue... you just buy 10 and be done with it.

I guess I just don't understand your point of this thread? Everyone makes choices... He decided the 617 fits his needs and all other perameters of his life. Congrats to him on the new rig! Not much is better than buying a new boat! But for you to say he is settling does mean a darn thing! I feel you settled with your boat too but it doesn't mean jack to you, does it?

Hard-water-fever is hitting hard already!

Yes, some people are stuck in the house with their axe-grinders too close for comfort ;)

I felt that the other "Does anyone have a boat smaller than 16'?" thread hinted at class warfare. Here we have a demonstration of the other side of it...:+ :+

If your handle indicates what boat you own, I wonder why you settled for a 619 instead of a 620....Hmmmmm

I fish out of a 14ft with a 9.9. Those Rangers and other fancy boats are a little too heavy for the portages we go on. I'd hate to scratch one....you'd go into major depression.

Number one... may I never share your water guest.

Number two... using your own logic, and I pray you read this. It must be a horrrrible blow to your self esteem to settle for a Ranger 619.

My god man, you could of had the 620

Oops, I mean the 621 you settler.

As far as that goes, get a Fountain 25 or a real boat.

Hope this post is logical and straightforward enough for you.

Send us all a pic with your pride and joy.

One of my boats is an inflatable and I am glad that it is for the simple reason that I won't be on the same water as this idiot. We also portage into Ontario remote lakes just to be away from these big boat people like Blackie.

I for one agree with him. People do this all the time in life. For some reason people think money makes them more of a person, so if they have to settle for something less because of money they try to make up some kind of excuse. I see it all the time. I have a 16 foot 84 starcrat, why? Because I can't afford anything else. I know someone with a 300 dollar 16 foot old 60's boat with a old 60's motor, why? Because they can't afford much better and they admit it. I know people who say there going to buy a polaris indy supersport(lowest on the line of snowmobiles) and say they "want it because this and that and this is why they are going to get it" ALthough whenever we drive by a top of the line snowmobiles he starts drooling.

Yes, I am prettysure he would admit he has the 619 instead of the 620 or 621 because he does not have enough money to buy a 620 or 621.

Sure there are a few reasons why people would buy a smaller boat, but most of the time it is because of money.

Its the truth and may not be liked but it is how life is.

Its something I did a few weeks ago. I bought a minn kota powerdrive 65lb thrust. Instead of a minn kota autopilot. When people tell me I should have got the autopilot I tell them that I got the powerdrive because I don't think I have much use for the autopilot. A: I fish depth and going in a directional line will not keep me on the depth I want so no use for a autopilot. B: If it is windy a autopilot will blow mee away from were I want to be because it only keeps you in a straight direction.

In all reallity I would love to get a autopilot, but I am not spending 250 dollars more for that feature. I convinietnly tell say that is one of the reasons though when it is.

tell = don't

bigger?
01-23-2003, 08:38 PM
If bigger is better, and we shouldn't settle, how about 1000 foot walleye boat or even 1,000,000 foot walleye boat...cause bigger is better right.

ck85abc
01-23-2003, 08:49 PM
Bigger is not always better, but most of the time. In general a 16 foot is better than a 12 foot, 17 better than 16, 18 better than 17 and so on up to a certain point.

You should settle, 99.9% of people settle, it is the way life is.

Yikes! Sometimes I wish I could highlight a post, or in this case an entire thread, and just hit the delete key. I think some people lose track of the important things in life. For this I pity them. <///><

Well............I really had my heart set on a Caterpillar Lexion combine with a 12 row head, a Hummer truck, and a wife with knockers the size of Dolly Parton's but...............

If I spent the extra $100,000 to buy the Lexion with the 12 row head instead of the 2366 CaseIH but then I'd have to get rid of the 16 row planter and spend another $35,000 to buy a 12 or 24 row.....and if I paid the extra $30,000 to get that Hummer I wanted I'd have to build a new shed because it won't fit where the pickup is parked.... and last but not least....I could have kept on looking for the girl with the giant you-know-whats but I happened to fall in love with one that is 2 cup sizes smaller........

I am so miserable because I had not the money for what I really wanted.

I remember my first beer. Sheesh!

Yes, but then again many who choose the big Ranger boat are undercompensating (They would need three boats to be overcompensating) for where they feel they don't have enough....'

No way! I enjoy this stuff. But then again, I enjoy running my fingernails along a chalkboard for hours on end.

We ought to take the two angriest people on this thread, pool our money together, and send them to San Diego to give the pregame motivational speeches to the Bucs and Raiders this Sunday. Those guys would be so pumped up, it would be the battle of the century!

Tks, I shouldn't have said real boat though. Just happened I was hanging out on the ocean recently and million bucks didn't get you much of a boat in that marina.

The guys with the 50' yachts were mighty envious of the dudes with the 100 ft yachts.

Girls had nothing to do with it :)

What's your point????

I have said this before and will repeat it for you.

This is America a free country to do, as you want. As long as you work, pay your taxes and take care of your family, you can do whatever the h*** you want. That includes spending money on anything you want.

WHAT DOES IT MATTER!!!!!!!!!!

Black 619,
I hope you are very happy with your boat. Don't cast dispersions on others choices or reasons. Our species may be on the top of the food chain, but you, clearly, are not on top of your game yet.
Take care,

Yes, That is exactly why I have a 1984 16' boat, a 1982 hummingbird sonar and just got a bowmount this year. A powerdrive when I wanted a autopilot. I have to settle for it because of money. Nothing I can do about it.

What I can't figure out is why you all settled when you could have gotten a Lund. HAHA.

Seriously though, this guy was just pushing buttons...evident by him not returning to the thread. It made for some entertaining reading for me though.

Your probably one of those guys who us fishermen see who has the top of the line boat, in your case a 619, top of the line electronics and fishing equipment and who fishes tournaments or tries to. Sure you may look good with what you got and that your hot sh#%$t, but really don't have a clue with what your doing. You don't need the best, biggest or baddest boat, just get what you like and can afford. You can be just as successful with a smaller boat without being in the poorhouse with a big fancy boat with which you don't have any clue on how to use it other than to show off and to advertise to everyone-"Hey look at ME with this big fancy boat" In your case, not everyone is made of money and can't afford a 619, so just get off their back because they don't meet up to your standards when they buy a 617. Get a life and quit your whining!!!
