This is kind of related to the previous post about who is the best pro...

I was wondering if you top pros have any preditions about who is the next "superstar" in the sport? Is there some rookie or local guy that has shown signs of brilliance. Maybe an undiscovered "Tiger Woods"?

several

there are several new guys that are prepared to make their move in the sport. the top guns have been sharing the limelight with more and more new pros. and trust this statement when i say, they aren't thrilled about the level of new competition. keep your eyes on the leaderboards this year and notice the new names for yourself! they will be there. the leading pros have been very helpful over the years in sharing information and they have paved the way for the tough, young guns.

I think the "real" top pros welcome the competition. They want to compete against the best...

As for who the next super star will be there are so many young up and coming anglers. Look out for Rick Franklin from Kansas, and Danny Plautz jr.

lotsof'em

There are many to keep your eye on in the next few years - and more than I list. In no particular order.......Tim Minnema, Chris Bahl, Danny Jr, Rick Franklin, Jack Neuman, Carl Grunwaldt, George Barach, Bobby Crow, Mike Gwizdala, Tommy Kemos, Dale Kuklinski.......

Who have I missed?

Don't know if I qualify as a "Top Pro", but based on 2002 I would keep an eye on these PWT Championship Qualifiers:

Rick Gardener-Gave up bull riding to fish walleyes, Smart man.

Jim Muzynoski-Montana Bowhunter, whose skills cross over to walleyes.

Nate Provost-Youngest PWT Qualifier, watch out for him.

Dale Kulinski-Experience and depth will come, good positive attitude.

Throw in Gwizdala, Sak, Butts, Grunwaldt, Rhodes and a few others I may have missed and you have quite a field just from last years PWT championship. Then add the RCL and MWC Boys. Not to mention some of the young competitors from all over the northern half of the United States and Canada already in the RCL or PWT. Did I forget all the "Young Guns" moving up to the bigger circuits? Mark my words, from out of these ranks will come more than one Walleye Superstar.
However, it will never happen if they don't show up...

I would agree regarding many of the choices previously mentioned especially after spending time with Neuman and Grunwaldt, and, to a lesser extent, Bahl and Franklin, prior to the RCL Championship in Red Wing. If I were a betting man (which I am) I would put my money on Neuman to have a monster year. He finished 10th at Sharpe, 13th at the Championship and in the top-25 at Saginaw. I believe that with another year of experience under his belt he is poised for a huge 2003. Quite frankly, the same can also be said for all those listed as they are becoming more familiar with the tournament bodies of water. I wish them all good luck as they are not only quality fishermen but also quality people.

Good choice on all counts.

This is the beauty of this sport. Just because a guy had a good season does not mean that he will duplicate it the next. Most of these tournament circuits rotate sites each year. So maybe this year the PWT east will favor open water trollers. Next year it may favor jiggers, river fisherman, or inland lakes guys.
