View Full Version : Trolling motor transducer
I am going to put a bow mount depth finder on my boat and was wondering if it is better to run the transducer in the back or off the trolling motor. I have to take my trolling motor off to put my cover on. Will it still work to put the transducer on there if I have to take it off all the time.

If you plan to do precision-type fishing while vertical jigging (spots on spots and jigging in front of marked fish) then put it on the trolling motor. You have to use small plastic tie-straps to secure the transducer cable to the motor shaft so you will need to remove the transducer cable from the back of your sonar unit each time you remove the motor from the boat. You will not be able to tuck excess cable into boat cavities and instead will have to tie-strap it into a small bundle so it doesn't get in the way by unraveling each time you remove the motor.
I agree, you want the transducer up front. If you are taking the trolling motor on and off so much, plugging and unplugging the cable from the depth finder should be the least of your problems.
