Going back and forth between the two. Which one do you prefer and why? Thanks in advance.

I have been using a flasher on the bow for 20+ years and see no reason to change. I like the simultaneous signal you can get from a flasher. Secondly, they seem to be much more dependable and maintenance free. However, if you are not an experienced flasher person a LCD might be your best choice as they are much easier to read and understand. Another consideration might be the X87(?) Lowrance as if I remember correctly it is a flasher and LCD all in one. I believe the old X75 was the same way. My best advise would be to get on the water with both and see what you think. Good luck.

For precision jigging and spooning vertically, the flasher is unsurpassed. Rig it so your lure is centered in the cone 25 to 30 ft and hover over the brushy drop offs and shad schools and you are the boss. If you dont know how to use one, just get a good old timer fisherman to show you the basics. There are still some relic published books available on how to read them.
I use the Vexilar FL 8 on the trolling Mtr, an old low power Humminbird Super 60 flasher to speed search and a Lowrance LCR/GPS. John Estes

I do have a fair amount of expierience with a flasher. Have been using the FL-8 ice fishing now for about 3 years. However I have never used it in the boat. Seems it would be a valuable tool to have on board. Real time is nice!
It seems to me it would be rather difficult to keep the jig/spoon in the cone of the flasher while verticle jigging. Although I havent tried it yet,.... with minimal winds, and current, seems it would be tricky, even with the aid of the Minnkota 65AP.
For now I am leaning towards the flasher, at least to try for a season. On my Last Mr. Pike I had an X65, w/ Johny Ray mount at bow. Anybody have the RAM mount at bow? How do they compare? Thanks for the info.
