Usually wait until the lakes open up to start walleye fishing in central Ne and northern KS. I've recently read about walleye fishing below some of the dams on the Missouri river - primarily in South Dakota. I believe most at Big Bend Dam, Ft. Randall Dam and Gavins Point Dam. Has anybody ever fished in Feb at any of these places? Is it good now, or do you have to wait a little while yet? Any info is appreciated!!

I know that Pierre is open!
It definately can be good in Feb.but I Have not heard anything lately. If you were to come up for a trip, be sure to watch the weather!! Currently, it is only 10 degrees here! And trust me, it can get much colder than that.
Also, the boat landing docks are pulled out. So bring waders (just in case) and some sand or gravel to pour on the landing for traction.

The guy with the last post is exactly right. Bring the waders and have a 4x4 for sure. Your best bet will be to watch the weather. The area's below the dam's in SD will open up rather quick when the temps starting hitting the 40's. The bite is usally real hit & miss but if you hit it right you can catch some impressive fish. For updates on what's been going one you can check out http://www.ktwb.com/fishing_report.php. It's usually a week late but it gives you an ideal. Right now I'd have to say wait until a break in the weather and plan a trip this way.
