Looking for reels for use primarily trolling with Off-Shore in-line boards. I've been looking at the Diawa SG27LC reels, then someone suggested I look at the Penn 855LC. Looking for anybody ho has experience with the new 855 and might compare it to the Diawa. (planning to intially use these with the Bass Pro Walleye trolling rods)

I ran 6 of the Penns last year for a area rep. They are beyond a doubt the most accurate so far as measuring distance is concerned. (Repeatability is more important than accuracy) We have 14 of the Diawas on the charter boat and they have given us good service as well. The drag on the Penn is superior to the Diawa, but the Penn is much more expensive. Penn's are electronic and take hearing aid batteries, although they have a long life. All and all: it's kinda like apples and oranges. The Okuma 20 DX is more comparable to the Diawa LC 27 SG, you may want to check it out as well. I know I didn't give you a firm answer, if pushed I'd say the Penn's, but I have no way of knowing how you look at the money thing. Good luck
