Yes I bought the 16Ci and was totally dissappointed in the performance in direct sunlight. When I called Lowrance to see if I could make it any brighter, I was told that the unit really should have some sort of shade from an electronic box or canvas top. i told them that unless they throw that in as an accessory, I feel I got hosed. Next time it will be Raymarine or garmin.

Supposedly Lowrance has solved the problem with viewing their color graphs in the sun. However, If I were thinking of buying one I'd want to see for myself that this was true before forking over $1000+. I've been quite happy with my X15 but those new color units sure look nice.

FROM LOWRANCE WEBSITE:
LCX-19C: Recording, dual-frequency, 256-color, sunlight viewable LCD Sonar with incredible detail and target separation definition - plus precision GPS+WAAS option and electronic charts versatility!

Good luck finding out anything here, i have seen several posts asking the same and similar questions and not much in the way of answers. I think they are just too new to get much feedback on. I have talked to Lowrance , Cabelas, Reeds and a couple marine dealers and cannot get a straight answer as to how well they will work in direct sunlight, I cannot even get a good enough answer to compare Lowrance to Raymarine, Garmin or Furuno. Good Luck !!

These units are just getting to the stores now. The only way you will find the info you want is to wait til a few guy get them and have a chance to play a little. I know this isn't much help but that's the way it goes with new products.

It sounds like Lowrance doesn't have it together with the color units. This is a real bummer when I just purchased a new LCX-16CI/GPS combo at Cabela's for $1049.00 . I thought the $50.00 difference between the LCX-15MT/GPS was worth it. The LCX-16CI has a hooded cover that it comes with. It's kind of goofy like looking through the underwater camera hoods but I think it will work. I looked in last years Cabela's catalog and it did mention that the Lowrance Color units should have some shade from direct sunlight for visability.

Nobody's color screens show up well in DIRECT sunlight. The Lowrance units can be run in black & white at these times and will still give you all the detail you bought the unit for. Yes, I know you bought color to see color but I'd rather see something in black & white than nothing in color. Just trying to help.
