Don,

I'm glad to see you as a fellow member. I'll probably disagree with you on every political post. However, I'm sure we'll all find some common ground when it comes to fishing. Take care and welcome aboard.

Don't forget to send Scott your color preference for the complimentary Ranger.

Good Luck

Funny that you should mention the complimentary Rangers, Mine was sitting in front of the house when I got home from work, Been waiting for over a year for it, I thought long and hard and decided to sell it and use the proceeds to fuel my SportCraft for the comming season
(sorry scott)

Interesting handle...Not a lot of Musky water in the Evergreen State. Tapps and Mayfield are the only 2 I know of. I've heard that there are some northerns in the far northeastern corner but never driven that far myself. I'd be curious to know where you fish and how much success you have.

Washington State lakes stocked with tiger muskies:

Mayfield Reservoir, on Highway 12 near Mossyrock
Lake Tapps, near Tacoma
Curlew Lake, in Ferry County near Republic
Fazon Lake, in Whatcom County
Green Lake, in Seattle
Evergreen Reservoir, in Quincy Wildlife Area, near Quincy
Newman Lake, near Spokane
Merwin Reservoir, in Clark County, east of Vancouver

I used to fish Mayfield a lot; last summer I was mostly fishing Evergreen and Curlew. Good action from fish up to 36" at Evergreen, if you can stand the mosquitoes. Walleye and smallies in there, too.

If you're in Seattle-Bellevue area maybe we could get together sometime. I'm retired & can go fishing almost anytime. Except I'll be traveling late May - end of June, this year. Going to Milwaukee to pick up my new Esox Magnum and do some fishing in N. Wisconsin. I live in the Richmond Beach area of North Seattle.

P.S., the closest northerns to Seattle I know of, are in Lake Couer d'Alene and the Chain Lakes. Supposedly there are a few in Long Lake near Spokane, but these apparently migrated from L. Couer d'Alene through the Spokane River and don't exist in enough numbers to fish for them. Best time to fish the Chain Lakes is March. Take a lawn chair, buy some frozen herring at the grocery store, and dunk that stuff from the bank at Killarney Lake or Cave Lake. If you're in that area later in the year, Hauser Lake (which is only 4 miles from Newman Lake) holds tiger muskies. You need an Idaho fishing license for any of these waters.

Really? (Note to general public: Don't believe half the stuff you read on this board. The hard part is figuring out which half.)

I didn't forget. I didn't list it because I don't know where it is. Not listed on the washingtonlakes.com web site, so I don't know anything about it. How big is it, and how do you get to it? Got any secret spots? (hee hee, just kidding) (Actually, I'm not kidding, I don't want more secret spots like the Democrats don't want more votes!)

Never knew Green Lake and Lake Tapps had Skis. Have you ever caught any in those lakes? I can't believe the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife would ever allow toothy critters in Western Wa. I thought Green Lake was carp and 6" trout, must make for some good bait for the Skis :o

I live on the conservative side of Lake WA., in Bellevue. Democrat, if we ever fished together, you would have to promise me you would only keep the conservative walleyes we caught. I can't stand being ganged up on ;)

Hey guys...I've caught one out of Tapps while fishing for bass last year. It was just under 30" and a lot of fun to catch on light gear. Definitely not like the bite of the bass in that lake. That was my first and only musky ever. I used to catch Northerns in NoDak quite often but hadnt had anything like that in quite a while.

Do they bite better on liberal crawlers?

I may try Green Lake when it warms up. Since the whole lake is shallow and choked with milfoil locating the 'skis won't be easy. My plan is to get a rental boat and row around the lake working a bucktail over the weeds, if you can call that a "plan."

Lake Tapps won't be around much longer if FERC grants Tacoma City Light's request to abandon the project. The homeowners are trying to find a way to save the lake, such as by selling water to Seattle. Decommissioning the dam would cause the lake will dry up in two years. Right now it's drawn down 37 feet for dam maintenance and more bottom is exposed than at any time since the dam was built in 1911 so this is a good time to go out there and look over the structure.

Locals at Curlew Lake told me 'skis are seen around the docks and the railroad trestle is a good area. I spent three days there in August and didn't even get a follow. Lots of fishy looking structure so dang if I know where they are. Curlew resembles a Wisconsin lake more than any other western musky lake I know of. Nice campground at the state park. Bring bratwurst.

On this board, the conservative half seems bigger than the liberal half or the in-between half ... but I'm not sure whether the live bait half is bigger than the trolling half or the bottom bouncing half ...

If you knew anything about musky fishermen you wouldn't ask such a question. Whereas a walleye fisherman has a good day if he catches three fish that year, a musky fisherman has a good year if he sees three fish that season. Who else counts a "follow" as action? Who is more self-delusional when it comes to patterning a lake and buying more lures in the hope something might work? We NEVER give up.

oops should read "a walleye fisherman has a good day if he catches three fish that day"

Now I'm not even making sense to myself ...
