Lake Mille Lacs

Can anyone give me any tips or advice on Mille Lacs. Taking the family there later in the week since Red Wing is not soundiing like the river is going to be very cooperative this weekend so we had a big change inplans this will be the first trip to Mille Lacs and I sure could use all the info I can get as to where to try and what to use for cranks ect... also if anyone would know of a decent motel in that area I would sure appreciate the info.

I was up there over the 4th and had good success. To catch fish though you had to be fishing the deep gravel or mud flats. We fished the mud flats saturday and sunday with pretty good luck. At times both lindys with crawlers and spinners with leeches worked well. When the lake was fairly calm we also saw people do really well with slip corks and leeches too. I fished nothing but lindys and crawlers and i did a few little things that seemed to get a few more bites than my fishing partners. We all used red hooks. I used 2 red beads also and gave the crawler a shot of air. I also used a bit longer snell than they did...about 10'. My biggest in 2 days was a 25"er and i had many others from 19-22". If your looking for specific flats we did well on Big flat..Shermans flat..and 8-mile. Hope this helps.
